1950 La Mission Haut Brion (750ml)

Robert Parker 95
"The 1950 possesses a huge nose of freshly brewed coffee, hickory wood, cedar, and chocolate. Super-rich and dense, with little evidence of its age (the color is still an opaque dark garnet color), this full-bodied, concentrated wine is at its apogee. It should continue to drink well for another 15-20 years."

1966 Palmer (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
"The 1966 Palmer continues to be one of the greatest examples of Palmer I have ever tasted. The haunting bouquet is similar to that already found in the 1961, and those that with more cellaring will undoubtedly develop in the 1970 and 1983. It has a plummy, mulberry-like fruitness, exotic spices, licorice, and a hint of truffles. Medium bodied, with a velvety richness, it has a long, ripe, lush finish, and enough grip and focus to drink well for another decade."
Wine Spectator 96
"Extraordinary. The bouquet is complex and exotic, with aromas of wild game, truffles and spice. Silky and firm on the palate, it's expressive and long, with enough raisin and cherry flavors to match the meat, tobacco and spice notes. This is why wine is aged."
Clive Coates 19
"Marvellous intensity and depth and substance on nose and palate. Indeed the nose evolved and improved in the glass. A wine of real concentration and power. Totally brilliant."

1970 Vega Sicilia Unico (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
One of Vega Sicilia's distinctive practices is to release magnums of great vintages well after the wine's initial release. Magnums of the fabulous 1970 Unico Reserva Especial have just been released. This wine boasts an elegant, complex bouquet of cedar wood, blackberries, cherry liqueur, and vanilla. Opulently-textured, with fabulous unctuosity, vivaciousness, and vigor, superb ripeness, a full-bodied, super-concentrated attack as well as lush mid-palate and finish, this seamless classic can be drunk now, or cellared for two decades. This wine was brilliant from the 750 ml format, and is equally compelling from magnum.
Wine Spectator 92
"A silky, seamless package of pleasure. Surprisingly dark color, then mature aromas of spice and cherry, with an elegant, soft palate impression that holds coffee, raisin and cherry flavors. It's balanced and long, with a slightly volatile character."
Serena Sutcliffe
Superb aromatic bouquet. So sweet and seductive. So round and complete thatit is 'spheric'! Totally aromatic. A giant of a wine. A recent magnum had a nose of blackberries in liqueur and a taste of wine gums and liquorice-glorious rich glycerol all the way.
Hedonist's Gazette 97
"A brilliant effort from Spain is the monumental 1970 Vega Sicilia Unico. Along with the 1982 Latour, it was the finest red wine of the day. Gorgeously sweet cassis and black cherry notes intertwined with hints of oak, earth, and spice box are found in this full-bodied, incredibly fresh, vibrant, super-concentrated wine." R. Parker, April, 2009

1975 Petrus (750ml)

$2,495.00
FREE shipping on 6 bottles or more. See all qualified wines
Robert Parker 98
The 1975 Petrus reveals a youthful, rustic, brutally powerful style, with an opaque garnet/ruby/purple color, and an emerging nose of over-ripe black-cherries, mocha/chocolate, and truffles. Extremely full-bodied, ferociously tannic, but awesomely concentrated, the 1975 Petrus can be drunk, provided readers have a penchant for slightly uncivilized wines. This behemoth Petrus (the last made in this style) is at least a decade away from full maturity. It is potentially a 50 year wine, with exquisite concentration and intensity. The notes for this wine are taken from the description of Series I of the 1995 tasting conducted in Munich by Helga and Hardy Rodenstock.
Wine Spectator 93
"Racy and exciting, one of the best '75s. Rather tough like other of the vintage, but there is still plenty of lovely bitter chocolate, tobacco and berry aromas and flavors. Very rich but still closed."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 95
Full amber-edged medium red. Knockout decadent nose combines roast coffee, mocha, chocolate, iron, truffle and smoke, along with a leesy nuance that reminded me of a great old Champagne. Hugely sweet and thick with extract, but with great steely grip and huge tannic clout. A classic, somewhat tough, old-style Petrus that should drink well for another 20 years. Perhaps a tad sweeter than the '75 Lafleur. But neither wine is for the fainthearted.

1975 Yquem (750ml)

Robert Parker 99
"The 1975 may turn out to be the greatest of the modern-day Yquems. It is awesomely concentrated, has perfect balance, and displays the telltale Yquem aromas of vanillin oak, tropical fruit, pineapples, honeyed peaches, and grilled almonds. There is exceptionally crisp acidity that pulls all of the massive extract into precise focus. This is a wine of astonishing power and finesse, with a finish that must be tasted to be believed."
Michael Broadbent 4*+
Wine Spectator 97
"A great Yquem, rich, ripe and spicy, with nice pineapple notes to add zip to the basic pear, honey and nutmeg aromas and flavors. Round and concentrated, generous honey and silky texture on the great, long finish. Has depth and character."

1977 Grange (750ml)

Opaque black/ruby color - aromas of licorice, earth, overripe black fruits and prunes. It is a heavyweight wine.
Wine Spectator 90
"Big-boned, rich and packed with berry, beetroot and mineral flavors that shine through the fine layer of firm tannins. A great example of a maturing Grange. Still growing in the bottle"

1977 Taylor (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. Their tawnys are also among the very best, though somewhat expensive. The 1977 has consistently been at the top of my list of vintage ports in this great vintage, although the Dow, Graham, and Fonseca are equally splendid. It is a mammoth, opaque, statuesque vintage port of remarkable depth and power, but is should not be touched before 2000.
Wine Spectator 97
Good ruby color still. The nose is fresh, with lots of crushed berry and plum, with a hint of piecrust. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a caressing texture. This delivers loads of complex fruit and spiciness. Medium-sweet. A beauty. Will improve for decades, but why wait? '77/'85/'97 blind Port retrospective. Jim Suckling

1982 Canon (750ml)

$275.00

Robert Parker 94
An amber edge to this wine's dark garnet/ruby color suggests approaching maturity. A fragrant, sweet nose of minerals, cherry jam, smoke, earth, cedar, and vanilla is enticing. Medium to full-bodied, with fabulously sweet fruit, a viscous texture, yet vibrant underlying acidity as well as surprising tannin and length, this is the greatest Canon produced over the last thirty years. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
Wine Spectator 96
This has always been one of the great wines of the vintage and one of the greatest ever produced at this estate. Seriously dark ruby in color, with blackberry, earth and fresh floral aromas. Full-bodied, with full silky tannins and thick, ripe fruit. Still needs time.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2000.
eRobert Parker Hedonist's Gazette
An outstanding, dark ruby/purple-hued effort with little lightening at the edge, the 1982 Canon exhibits plenty of crushed rock, red and black currant, and dusty, earthy, loamy notes. It is a full-bodied, powerful, still slightly austere St.-Emilion with moderately high tannins. Believe it or not, this 1982 is not yet fully mature. It should drink well for another 10-15 years. April 2009

1982 Certan De May (750ml)

$475.00

Robert Parker 98
The Philadelphia tasting was the finest showing yet for this wine, which has been forbiddingly tannic, backward, and broodingly difficult to assess for much of its life. In the blind tasting, I thought it was Lafleur, and came close to giving it a perfect rating. Although still youthful, it has turned the corner and is emerging from its closed state. A murky, dense, opaque garnet color is followed by spectacular aromatics of roasted herbs, smoked meats, cedar, prunes, black cherries, and black currants. Rich, powerful, and full-bodied, with a thick, unctuous texture, considerable fat and glycerin, and dazzling concentration, Certan de May has not produced a wine of such intensity, thickness, and aging potential since their 1949, 1948, 1947, and 1945. It is accessible, but do not mistake that for maturity. This 1982 demands another 5-6 years of cellaring; it should age easily for 30+ years. It is a modern day classic, and unquestionably the finest Certan de May I have ever tasted.
eRobert Parker Hedonist's Gazette
I have been drinking this wine out of half bottle, and this was the first regular bottle I have had over recent years. While this Pomerol is loaded, it remains extremely backward - hence the lower score. I would not touch a bottle for another 5-8 years. The half bottles are tasting at least 4 to 5 points better, and are obviously much more evolved. The full bottle exhibited a dense plum/purple color along with notes of cedar, forest floor, sweet jammy plums, black currants, licorice, and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied and powerful with high tannins as well as a rustic, massive mouthfeel and finish, it should be fully mature by 2015, and keep until 2030+. April 2009

A beautifully mature, mellow Champagne that has lots to offer the serious connoisseur. Almost Burgundian in flavor, with mushroom, spice and almond accents to the core of honey and cherry. The flavors linger and blend on the finish.

1982 Haut-Brion (750ml)

$1,595.00

Wine Spectator 99
This is the best Haut-Brion since 1959 and perhaps one of the best Bordeaux we have ever tasted. It has loads of character, packed to the brim with fruit and tannins. A wine for the next century. Enjoyable now, but much better after 1998.
Clive Coates
Very full colour. Full, rich nose, but rather closed, dense, and adolescent compared with the 1983. Yet, on the palate, on this occasion, more exciting. And this has the extra substance and power. Rich, fat concentrated fruit. Balanced by good fresh acidity. Long on the palate. A really fine complexity and freshness on the finish. Excellent.
Robert Parker 94
"Administrator, Jean Delmas, continues to believe the 1982 is the modern day clone of the 1959 Haut-Brion. I am not willing to go that far, but it is certainly a rich, seductive, medium to full-bodied Haut-Brion that is beginning to reveal some of the tell-tale, mineral, tobacco, ripe, curranty fruit aspects of this fragrant, complex first-growth. The 1982 Haut-Brion is not, in my opinion, comparable to the perfect 1989, but it is a rich, full-bodied wine with well-integrated, sweet tannin, true class and character, and a sweet, expansive, long finish. The wine has been slow to throw off its cloak of tannin and reveal its true Haut-Brion-like personality. It should reach full maturity in 3-5 years and drink well through the first two decades of the next century ."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 96
Good medium amber-edge red. Flamboyant aromas of smoked meat, leather, truffle and burnished oak. Intensely flavored and penetrating, with strong acids giving the flavors terrific cut and grip. I get an impression of strong cabernet tannins. Drink now through 2020. 94. My second bottle showed even more extravagantly expressive aromas of hot stones, tobacco, minerals and marzipan; a denser, silkier palate impression, with more obvious roasted Graves character; and an uncanny combination of sheer sweetness with structure and grip. I rated this wine even higher.
James Suckling 97
I love the wonderful aromas of violets and sandalwood with berry and currant. It's full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a tar, berry and chocolate aftertaste. This is long, rich, soft and fabulous. This is the best deal in first growth 1982. It can be half the price of Lafite. 97 points, non-blind. Sept, 2009

Robert Parker 99
"Is this deja vu 1959? An extraordinary effort that gets better with each tasting, this dark, murky, garnet/purple-colored 1982 exhibits a fabulously complex nose of hot bricks, asphalt, black fruits, tar, roast beef, and truffles, colossal concentration, super-ripeness, an unctuous texture, and low acidity. While still exceptionally youthful, this wine is powerful, dense, large-scaled, and intense. It is evolving at a snail's pace, but should continue to improve for another 10-15 years, and last for another three decades. A candidate for perfection."
Wine Spectator 97
"Herculean in structure, this has an extraordinary amount of fruit and tannins. The last vintage from the Woltners. Super-earthy and fruity, with great structure. Don`t touch for years; try in 1998 to 2000." --1982 Bordeaux horizontal.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 95
"Good full medium red. Exotic yet lively aromas of roasted plum, marzipan and grilled nuts. Wonderfully dense but sappy, with grip of steel. Finishes powerfully tannic and extremely long, still with a touch of youthful austerity. A very impressive showing. Drink 2005 to 2025. (My second bottle was equally impressive but came across as even more backward and dominated by its structure.)"

1982 Margaux (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
"An extraordinary Margaux. Certainly the 1982 has a magnificent bouquet of creamy, toasty, smoky oak and ripe berries in addition to an exotic, almost oriental spice character to the perfume that gives it great individuality. In the mouth, the wine is fabulously concentrated, rich, and extremely soft, but at the same time very tannic, although the tannins are supple even silky. The wine has a finish that must last for several minutes. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025."
Wine Spectator 95
"The '82 is sensational, with captivating vanilla, violet and fruit aromas and flavors and palate-caressing, silky tannins."
Clive Coates
"Rich, exotic, flamboyantly beautiful nose. Chocolate and mulberries. Crammed with fruit. Full, fat, concentrated, still with some unresolved tannin. Very good grip.. A very lovely seductive wine and a very fine one. Excellent."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 96
"Deep ruby-red. Boysenberry, cassis, toasty oak and bitter chocolate on the slightly dusty nose. Penetrating and powerful; quite dry but almost exotically ripe, with sappy berry flavors complicated by graphite and licorice notes. Finishes very tannic and very long, with a strongly spicy character. 94(+?). Second bottle: Medium ruby. Vibrant aromas of boysenberry, violet and licorice. Pure silk in the mouth, with great sappy verve. Hugely concentrated and compellingly sweet. Utterly spherical wine, finishing with outstanding mounting fruit. Drink now to 2030."
James Suckling 96
This shows lovely black currant and blueberry with some herbs on the nose. It's full-bodied, with velvety and refined tannins. It turns a little dry on the finish, with a little air. Just right for the moment. Fabulous wine but not genius. 95 points, non-blind. Sept, 2009
eRobert Parker Hedonist's Gazette
Consistently scoring between 98-100, the superb 1982 Margaux may be slightly bigger, bolder, and more masculine than vintages produced over the last 15-20 years. Its dark plum/purple color is followed by notes of melted tar intermixed with sweet cassis and floral underpinnings. Very full-bodied and dense for a Château Margaux, with a slight rusticity to the tannins, it boasts blockbuster power, richness, and impressive aromatics. It appears set for another 30-40 years of life. April 2009

"The 1982 Petrus, while never quite living up to my predictions from cask (I thought it to be a perfect wine), is still a colossal Petrus, exhibiting a backward, sweet, expansive nose of ripe fruit, Provencal herbs, chocolate, and spice. Full-bodied, tannic, and super-concentrated, this wine requires another 5-8 years of cellaring. It should keep for 25-30+ years."
Wine Spectator 96
"Dark ruby garnet. Intense tobacco, cedar, berry and blackberry. Full-bodied, silky, firm and fresh. Long. A beauty. One of the best bottles I have ever had."

1983 Cheval Blanc (750ml)

Robert Parker 95
"A classic example of Cheval Blanc's style, the 1983 continues to put on weight and develop favorably in the bottle. A saturated dark ruby color with some faint lightening at the edges exhibits less age than most right bank 1983s. The huge nose of mint, jammy black fruits, chocolate, and coffee is sensational, as well as surprisingly well-developed. The wine offers lusty, rich, unctuous fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, low acid, concentrated, rather hedonistic style. There are no hard edges to be found, but there is plenty of tannin in the lush finish. Gorgeous for drinking now, this is a great Cheval Blanc that should continue to drink well, and possibly improve for another 20 years. The 1983 is far superior to anything Cheval Blanc has subsequently produced. It remains somewhat undervalued for its quality." Last tasted 12/97
Wine Spectator 96
A giant of a wine. The complex aromas and thickly textured flavors range from plum and raisin to coffee, minerals and mint. Not so elegant as a typical Cheval; more in the mold of the powerful '47 and legendary '21. Drink or hold.--Cheval-Blanc vertical.

The 1983 Le Pin offers a huge, soaring bouquet of smoky oak, spices, and sweet fruits. This splendidly opulent, voluptuously textured wine reveals the gorgeous sweetness and ripeness of fruit so much a hallmark of this estate. The 1983 Le Pin has low acidity, gobs of glycerin, superb extraction of fruit, and a sensational finish. It appeared lighter in its youth, with less aromatic and flavor dimension. Now that it has reached its plateau of maturity, it is one of my two or three favorite examples of this exotically styled, kinky wine.

"The 1983 Margaux is a breathtaking wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes achieved perfect maturity in 1983, and the result is an astonishingly rich, concentrated, atypically powerful and tannic Margaux. The flavors are extremely long on the palate, with a clean, incredibly long finish."
Clive Coates
"Heaps and heaps of overy classy concentrated fruit. Fullish, very good grip. Great intensity and consistency from start to finish.. Essence of fruit. Great complexity. Finely balanced. Great depth. Great class. Great wine."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 95
"Deep ruby-red. Exotic aromas of cassis, meat and smoke, plus a whiff of funky wood. Then remarkably sweet, lush and suave, with a flavor of raw berries. Pure Margaux silkiness allied to firm structure. Finishes very long, with rich, sweet tannins. Remarkable wine, particularly considering that the bottle was not perfect. Pristine bottles of this wine are just now embarking on their period of peak drinkability, which should last another 20 years or more."

The 1983 is among themost concentrated wines from this property ove rthe last 20 years, with a staggering display of extract and amind-boggling amount of glycerin. Most observers feel the 1983 will mature more slowly than the 1986 and will last for almost 100 years..At present, the 1983 is enormous, with huge, honeyed, pineapple, coconut, and caramel flavors, massive extract, and an unctuous quality barely framed by acidity and new oak.
Wine Spectator 98
"Super-intense and full-throttled, elegant and stylish. Dark amber in color and rich in complexity, this '83 coats your mouth with butterscotch, dried apricot, fig and spice flavors. Made to age for decades."
Clive Coates
..Splendidly balanced with the acidty. Size, breed, harmony, depth, lusciusness: it is all here. Real dimension. Infanticide to drink it now. Brilliant.

1985 Fonseca (750ml)

Robert Parker 90
Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. If Fonseca lacks the sheer weight and power of a Taylor, Dow or Warre, or the opulent sweetness and intensity of a Graham, it excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavors. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports. When it is young, it often loses out in blind tastings to the heavier, weightier, more tannic wines, but I always find myself upgrading my opinion of Fonseca after it has had 7-10 years of age. The 1985 looks to be one of the top successes of the vintage, yet I believe both the superb 1983 and the otherworldly 1977 are far superior. Dense ruby/purple with the Oriental spice-box aroma, the 1985 is an expansive, sweet, broadly flavored wine with outstanding depth, concentration, and balance. It finishes with a solid lashing of alcohol and tannin.
Wine Spectator 93
Very dark and youthful ruby-purple. Very intense aromas of blackberry and black licorice. Full-bodied and lightly sweet, with chewy tannins and a rich licorice, blackberry undertone. Still tight. Drinkable now, but it needs a few more years. '77/'85/'97

Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. It is forward, as are all 1985s, and I would speculate that this port will be approaching maturity by 1992-93 and will keep 15-20 years thereafter.
James Suckling 96
It has great elegance and great power. Brilliant deep ruby-purple, with boysenberry and licorice aromas, full-bodied, very fleshly, with a firm backbone of tannins.

A totally compelling Climens and every bit as good as the 1988. It is probably the best Climens made since their spectacular 1971. Still light gold in color, it has an expansive bouquet of new oak, oranges, pineapples, and other tropical fruits. In the mouth, there is great richness that seems all the more impressive because of the wine's remarkable clarity and definition. There is as much botrytis in the 1986 as in the 1988. Despite the intensity and extract levels, this sweet wine comes across as crisp and relatively light. The 1986 is a stunning example of Climens at its very best.

Tasted from my cellar, the 1986 has consistently been outstanding, falling short of being sublime. The spicy, peppery bouquet reveals aromas of dried herbs and red currant fruit. Medium-bodied, austere, but youthful, vigorous, and concentrated, this wine still requires 4-5 years of cellaring. It is surpassed in this vintage (which favored the northern Medoc and Cabernet Sauvignon) by its rivals, Lafite-Rothschild and Mouton-Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.

"The 1986 Margaux continues to be the most powerful, tannic, and muscular Margaux made in decades. One wonders if the 1928 or 1945 had as much power and depth as the 1986? The wine is mammoth, with extraordinary extract, superb balance, and a frightingly tannic finish. A Margaux of immense stature, it is made in a masculine, full-bodied style that is in complete contrast with the 1990. It should prove nearly immortal in terms of ageability."
Wine Spectator 98
"An absolute classic; incredibly concentrated, complex, elegant and firm without a hint of hardness. Layers of blackberry, cassis, plum, cedar, vanilla and spice, yet there is also a sense of reserve, indicating this has plenty of room to grow. Hold until 1995 to 2000."

Somewhat restrained, yet intriguing nose of dried herbs, mineral, cedar and black cherry. Intense flaovrs of mocha and black fruits, vanilla and coffee bean. Bold, delicious and exquisitely balanced. From 20th Anniversary Tasting held October 1999.

E Robert Parker In Asia, Lisa Perrotit-Brown 91
Deep brick colour. Appealingly evolved nose of leather, game, tobacco, espresso, stewed prunes, bacon and tea. The palate still provides a good amount of elegant fruit that builds in the mouth. Light to medium level of silky tannins remain with medium to high acidity to provide freshness. Long finish. Fully mature. Should keep a further 2-3 years. Tasted April 2009. Lisa Perrotti-Brown

"The 1986 is the most tannic, as well as the largest-framed Pichon-Lalande in over three decades. Whether it will ultimately eclipse the 1982 is doubtful, but it will be longer-lived. Dark ruby/purple, with a tight yet profound bouquet of cedar, blackcurrants, spicy oak, and minerals, this full-bodied, deeply concentrated, exceptionally well-balanced wine is, atypically, too brawny and big to drink young. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2015."
Wine Spectator 97
"Amazingly rich and elegant with concentrated and compact fruit, layers of cassis, currant, vanilla and plum flavors and a remarkable aftertaste that is gentle and supple."
Clive Coates
"Fullish, marvellously intense and harmonious. Really rich and concentrated. Splendid Pichon fruit and dimension. This is a great wine. Very, very long and lovely at the end. Fine."

DECANTER AWARD WINNER "Attractive nose. Very harmonious fruit and tannins on the palate. Rounded fruit, a classic, opulent style, and good length." March 1999

1986 Yquem (750ml)

Robert Parker 98
With greater evidence of botrytis than the colossal 1983, but less power and alcohol, the 1986 Yquem tastes reminiscent of the 1975, only more precocious, as well as more concentrated. Its enthralling bouquet of pineapples, sauteed hazelnuts, vanillin, and ripe apricots is breathtaking. Compellingly concentrated, this wine, in breadth as well as depth of flavor, seemingly knows no limits.
Wine Spectator 95
A beauty that's in almost perfect harmony. Full-bodied, exhibiting wet earth, honey, floral and ginger flavors that burn with intensity on the long, sweet finish.

This is easily the most concentrated and potentially longest-lived Cabernet Sauvignon that chateau Montelena has ever made. The extract level is incredible, yet the balance is there..the wine's black/purple color, extraordinary bouquet of rich cassis, violets, and licorice, massive extraction of flavors, sensational depth, super ripeness, and length are awesome.

"Extra facets and dimensions abound in this deeply complex and flavorful wine. Impressive for its focus and finesse, though there's an underlyingfirmness and authority in the core of chewy currant, herb and anise flavors. Delicious."

A spectacular wine offering forward, appealing scents of raw meat, black pepper, clove and black cherry-cassis. Huge on the palate, yet finely balanced with lluscious, rich, deep, extracted black fruits accented by notes of dried herbs and leather. From 20th Anniversary Tasting held October 1999.

This powerhouse is rather traditional and decadent compared to the modern-day wines from Cos. Ink-colored and full-bodied, with ripe fruit aromas, velvety tannins and intense berry and spice flavors.--1988 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2002

"A laser beam. Beautifully focused, intense and densely flavored with lime, honey and chanterelles in butter. So rich it's almost too much, but the vibrant acidity keeps everything in check and driving through the long finish. Drink now through 2010. 700 cases imported."
Robert Parker 92+
" Vibrant, pure aromas of lemon, peach, orange peel, toast and rose petal. Big and mouthfilling, but quite dry and youthfully unevolved; a very serious Champagne that's not yet filled in on the middle palate. Extremely unevolved. Shows the edgy acidity of the year. Finishes with almost painful intensity. A strong showing for a wine that is not ready to drink."

"Exotic. Fragrant spicy, roasted fruit and coffee aromas give way to very ripe fruit with toasty notes on the palate. It has good depth, and seems to be opening up after a dumb phase."

"..A wine of distinctive charm and elegance..a refresing wine on the nose and palate..Deliciously sweet..Next noted in its tenth year: mature looking; perfect harmony..a lovely wine. Most recently, in jeroboam, tasted blind: rich, chocolatey, mocha nose, could only be Right Bank; soft, chewy, elegant, lovely. Now-2015. *****

Last Tasted 8/92 Medium deep ruby, with an open-knit nose of black fruits and toasty oak, this medium-bodied, soft, silky textured Cos d'Estournel is remarkably evolved and delicious for such a young wine. As with most 1989s, the acid is low and the tannins are soft and unobtrusive. This wine will undoubtedly close up over the next several years, but as tasty and round as it is at present, I do not believe it will last more than twenty years.
Wine Spectator 95
A huge, seamless wine of fabulous elegance. Deep, dark-ruby color. Intense aromas of blackberries, spices, mushrooms and bark. Full-bodied and extremely silky, with a long, long finish. Seductive as hell.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93
Full medium ruby. High-pitched, perfumed aromas of dark berries, minerals and violet; very cabernet. Rich, dense and youthful; broad and beefy, with cassis, black cherry and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes very sweet and long, with fine tannins spreading out impressively to coat the palate. A great showing. Drink now through 2015.

1989 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
This fabulous, blockbuster has been totally unevolved since bottling, but at the Jaboulet tasting, it was beginning to reveal some of its formidable potential. A saturated opaque purple color is followed by aromas of cassis, minerals, and hot bricks/wood fire. Super-ripe and full-bodied, with a massive mid-section, teeth-staining extract, and mouth-searing tannin, it is a monster-sized La Chapelle.

1989 La Conseillante (750ml)

Robert Parker 97
This is an upper-ninety point La Conseillante that is very much in the style of the 1990. In comparing the two vintages, the 1989 has slightly more noticeable tannin and structure, but it is a perfumed, exotic, sweet, expansive, yummy wine that is hard to resist. These two wines represent La Conseillante's quintessential smooth as silk style, which often leads consumers to believe the wines will not last. One of the unexplainable facts of Bordeaux wine drinking is that even the softer, delicious, up-front wines can age impeccably when well-stored. Owners of the 1989 La Conseillantes should not hesitate to enjoy them now, as well as over the next 20 years.
Wine Spectator 92
"Tastes like melted milk chocolate, with a bit of spice. Big and fleshy displaying rich, forward fruit flavor and full, round tannins. It will age but be ready before some '89s. "

1989 Leflaive Chevalier Montrachet (750ml)

Robert Parker 95
The 1989 Chevalier-Montrachet needs more time. While it is the firmest and least forthcoming of Leflaive's 1989s from an aromatic perspective, it also exhibits the longest finish. In fact, the entire wine explodes at the end of the palate, suggesting 4-6 years of cellaring is required. This honeyed, creamy textured wine possesses superb acidity for a 1989, and should prove to be capable of 10-15 or more years of longevity. Although Leflaive's 1989s are top-notch, they are not as dramatic as one would expect from a vintage with the taste profile of 1989.

1989 Louis Latour Batard Montachet (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
Among Louis Latour's grands crus, the 1989 Batard-Montrachet is absolutely spectacular, a near perfect example of just how riveting Batard-Montrachet can be. Even though it is much more developed than the 1989 Corton-Charlemagne or 1989 Montrachet, it should last as long as either of them. The bouquet is bursting with flavors of oranges, smoky oak, toast, and butterscotch. In the mouth there is enormous richness, gobs of glycerin and extraction of flavor, and surprisingly high acidity in view of the wine's massiveness and extract levels. Drink this spectacular Batard-Montrachet over the next 10-15 years. This is an outstanding white burgundy by any standard of measurement. Don't miss it!

The 1989 Chevalier-Montrachet-Les Demoiselles, made in microscopic quantities from a 1.23 acre parcel, is an enormously weighty, blockbuster Chardonnay that is close to 15% natural alcohol (regardless of what the label might say). It reminds me somewhat of the 1980 Chalone. The honeyed, creamy richness, and the huge aromas of smoke, flowers, tropical fruits and nuts are celestial. Drink this extraordinarily concentrated, beautifully crafted bottle of wine over the next 10-15 years.

"Consistently backward and dense, with enormous potential, this admirable wine will not be ready for prime time drinking for another 5-7 years. The color is not quite as opaque as the 1990's, but reveals more purple and no lightening at the edge. Hugely concentrated flavors have just begun to offer up a nose of cedar and creme de cassis. Powerful and muscular, with high tannin and superb concentration, this is Lynch Bages at its biggest and most beastly. However, everything is in balance for a stunning evolution. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030."
Wine Spectator 98
"Perhaps the greatest Lynch-Bages ever produced. Dark-ruby in color, offering plenty of blackberry, mint and spice aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with masses of velvety tannins and a superlong, fruity finish. Yet it's only giving half of what it's got; give it time." --1989 Bordeaux.

The dense, full-bodied 1989 is brilliantly made, with huge, smoky, chocolatey, cassis aromas intermingled with scents of toasty oak. Well layered, with a sweet inner core of fruit, this awesomely endowed, backward, tannic, prodigious 1989 needs another 5-6 years of cellaring. 11/96
Wine Spectator 98
Youthful and gorgeous. Hedonistic. Superyoung ruby, black color. Masses of ripe fruit. Blackberry, cassis and spices. Full-bodied and very soft, with round, caressing tannins and a deliciously fresh berry, plum aftertaste. Hard not to drink it now.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 94+
Impressive saturated ruby color. Pure, classic Pauillac aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate, menthol and flowers. Very intensely flavored, precise and penetrating, with an extremely primary flavor of cassis. Almost magically light on its feet owing to its rather strong acidity. A very young, extremely long wine with great tensile strength. May yet merit a higher score with another six to eight years of bottle aging. 2006 to 2025.

A sense of opulence marks this highly concentrated, creamy-textured '90 Champagne, with its ripe, generous fruit flavors complementing the toasty, honeyed nuances acquired from aging on the lees. Lingering finish.
Robert Parker 91
"Gold-tinged color. Deep, maturing aromas of toffee, butterscotch, ginger and molasses. Fat and rich in the mouth, with ecellent intensity; in the mature Bollinger style but far more successful than the bottling from the lower-acid 1989 vintage. Thick with extract, and palate-staining on the aftertaste. A main-course Champagne."
Neil Martin, Wine Journal, eRobert Parker 94
Served at lunch, this ¿90 Bolly is showing beautifully at present. A delightful, crisp nose of brioche, apple-blossom, a hint of nougat, praline and cashew nuts all with wonderful definition and vibrancy. The palate is showing very good fruit concentration, very smooth and slightly honeyed in texture, it almost had me guessing that it was another VVF having just tasted the ¿92. Great mineralité towards the finish, elegant and beautifully poised with that praline notes coming back on the aftertaste. All you could wish for in a ¿90 champagne. Drink now-2015+. Tasted October 2008.

Phenomenal bouquet. Asian spices, roses, citrus blossom and fresh chanterelle segue into apple, bread and grilled nuts. Very fresh, harmonious and minerally, with a seamless texture and an aftertaste of ginger. Plenty of life ahead.
Robert Parker 95
The exceptional 1990 Champagne NPU (disgorged July 2002) was fermented and aged for 10 months in barrel, then remained in bottle on its lees for over 10 years before being disgorged. Its intricate nose displays rich, vinous aromas of hazelnuts, toast, and pears. This 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir is medium-bodied, silky-textured, full-flavored, and complex. Its flavor profile, composed of fresh toasted white fruits, seamlessly lingers throughout this wine¿s character and stretches well into its prolonged finish (where a sweet note of lime makes an appearance). Drink this great Champagne over the next 5-6 years.
