Robert Parker 95
Opaque black/ruby color - aromas of licorice, earth, overripe black fruits and prunes. It is a heavyweight wine.
Wine Spectator 90
"Big-boned, rich and packed with berry, beetroot and mineral flavors that shine through the fine layer of firm tannins. A great example of a maturing Grange. Still growing in the bottle"

1985 Lindemans Pyrus (750ml)

$49.00
Wine Spectator
Rich and concentrated, with some prune and sun-dried tomato fruit, lots of non-fruit complexity such as smoke, leather and tea, a touch of decadence. Exotic but generally attractive, eve impressive.

1990 Grange (750ml)

Robert Parker 94
Wine Spectator 98
Bold, ripe and powerful, with a solid, rich core of mineral, currant, plum and cedar flavors that are remarkably complex, smooth and polished, with fine but firm tannins. Elegant, refined and tasty to drink now, but sure to age.
Wine News 94
Deep crimson robe. Delicate nose of apricot, light stone and flinty aromas with a hint of pepper. A well-constructed wine with mineral, orange peel, cassis and a backing of oak tannins. A powerful finish defined by tart cherry, mint and oak.

1990 Penfolds Bin 90 A (750ml)

$250.00
FREE shipping on 6 bottles or more. See all qualified wines
Robert Parker 91
"The Bin 90A is an outstanding wine with a deep, saturated ruby/purple color, and a smoky, roasted herb, blackcurrant, jammy-scented nose. Thick, rich, and full-bodied, with elevated tannin, this spicy, boldly-styled wine will drink well for 15-20 years."
FineWine International
Bin 90A is part of the special bin program developed by Max Schubert, the creator of the acclaimed Grange. The program was created in the early 1960's to isolate certain outstanding parcels of vineayard that produced exceptional wines. The Bin 90A is only the third special release since 1962.

1991 Henschke Hill of Grace (750ml)

Wine Spectator 91
"Marked by minty currant aromas with flavors to match. A bit rustic and still tannic, but it unfolds some complex flavors and holds together."
Robert Parker 95
Other than the top cuvees of Penfolds' Grange, and the old vine Grenache and Astralis from Clarendon Hills, no Australian wines are richer than these offerings from Henschke - a winery that gets my nod as one of Australia's two or three finest producers. Each of these wines coats the mouth with glorious levels of jammy fruit, extract, glycerin, and silky tannin. They are all dense ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied, and capable of lasting at least a decade, and in the case of the 1991 Shiraz Hill of Grace, possibly 20+ years. The 1991 Shiraz Hill of Grace Keyneton Vineyard is the most backward of the Henschke wines, with an earthy minerality, and explosive black fruits the likes of which are often seen in northern Rhone Valley wines made from ancient vines. This huge, broodingly backward, muscular, brawny, immensely concentrated yet formidably endowed wine requires another 4-5 years of cellaring; it should keep for 15-20 years. These are awesome examples of what Australia is capable of producing.

1992 Grange (750ml)

$210.00

Wine Spectator 94
Ripe, smoky and spicy, this is a wine of extraordinary subtlety and complexity, powerful without showing too much muscle. It layers its anise, black cherry and blackberry flavors to keep them zingy through the finish. Shows a lot of depth and surprising restraint.

1992 Henschke Hill of Grace (750ml)

Wine Spectator 94
"Earthy, almost decadent-tasting, but there are plenty of ripe plum, prune and black cherry flavors to accompany the gamy streak and hints of black pepper in this distinctive wine"

Robert Parker 96
The 1995 Astralis is a candidate for a perfect score. About 450 cases of this luxury cuvee are made..This single-vineyard, old-vine Shiraz made from 50-60 year old vines is aged in 100% new French oak, and is bottled with no fining or filtration. The saturated opaque black/purple color is followed by a huge yet tight nose of crushed black-raspberries, cassis, bacon fat, violets, and toasty oak. The aromatics offer only a glimpse of what will emerge om 5-10 years of cellaring. In the mouth, this wine reveals phenomenal richness and purity, huge body, but no sense of flabbiness. The oak is remarkable well-intergrted, which suggests to readers just how concentrated this wine is. It is a winemaking tour de force, and unquestionably one of the greatest young red wines I have tastd. I have been very conservative scoring it, but this wine should prove to be uncommonly rich and comlex after another 3-5 years of cellaring; it should keep for 25-30 years-a legend!
Wine Spectator 95
"Deep, dark and juicy, this is a dense wine with crisp acidity to balance the solid blackberry, spice and hints of dill on the jazzy finish. Has a distinctive personality and impressive length--there's nothing else quite like it."

1995 Grange (750ml)

Wine Spectator 97
A massive wine, majestic in its proportions, combining power and grace in equal measure. Flavors of plum, blackberry, chocolate and pepper, with hints of cedar, licorice and mint, swirl through the exotic finish. Tannins swarm but don't overwhelm the finish, which echoes all day and night.

1996 Clarendon Hills Astralis (750ml)

Robert Parker 97
This wine remains a baby and in need of another ... 10 more years of cellaring. A mammoth, blockbuster wine with awesome layers of flavor extract, huge, high tannin, and magnificent, concentrated cassis fruit, this full-bodied wine shows beautifully integrated tannin, acidity, and alcohol, but still has a personality more like a barrel sample than a wine that is already five years old. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2040.
Wine Spectator 92
"A huge mouthful of plum, blackberry and blueberry flavors on a supple, elegant frame. Doesn't quite have the grandeur of the '95, but it's beautifully balanced to show off its pretty mint, cedar and spice nuances. Delicious now, feels like it should develop too."

1996 Clarendon Hills Blewitt Springs Grenache Old Vines (750ml)

$75.00

1997 Noon Eclipse Red Mclaren Vale/Langhorn Creek (750ml)

$70.00
Robert Parker 94
The opaque purple-colored 1997 Eclipse (900 cases of a 65% Grenache, 35% Shiraz blend, from 35-60-year old vines) somehow manages to hide its 16.3% alcohol. The wine offers up cherry/blackberry liqueur-like aromas and flavors, an unctuous texture, and despite its ripeness, size, and richness, does not taste like a heavyweight, late-harvest, pruny wine. It seems to me that vineyards in this viticultural area (Langhorn Creek) can achieve an extraordinarily high degree of alcohol without the pruny flavors often associated with less alcoholic wines. This unfiltered beauty is extremely intense, yet should evolve into a civilized, spectacular Shiraz/Grenache blend that will age well for 10-15+ years. A name to watch for is Drew Noon, who has taken over his father's winery, and apparently hit the bull's eye with everything I tasted in 1997. Noon's wines taste like the essence of their respective varietals, pushing concentration and extract to the limit, although I did not sense that they were over the top. These are wines of extraordinary depth and richness, with amazing upside potential in the bottle.

1998 Clarendon Hills Astralis (750ml)

Robert Parker 98
Just beginning to emerge from a relatively dormant state, this prodigious wine was showing the best it has yet performed., suggesting again that Clarendon Hills wines behave more like European wines in terms of needing time in the bottle. The saturated blue/purple color offers up notes of ripe black fruits intermixed with graphite, vanilla, mineral, and spice. Extremely thick, with a viscous texture, good underlying tannin and acidity, and fabulous length (nearly 50 seconds), this is certainly a prodigious effort that is now living up to the fame and extraordinary quality of this vintage. Nevertheless, I thought the wine needed about five years of cellaring two years ago, but now I tend to think it needs at least another 5-7 years of cellaring before it will begin to become an adolescent. It is a majestic, multi-dimensional, individualistic wine that certainly is world-class and undoubtedly profound. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030.
Wine Spectator 93
"Deep, dark and dense, a powerfully concentrated mouthful of cherry, blackberry, plum and exotic spice flavors that linger on the beautifully crafted finish. Stylish and graceful, it also has power."

1998 Clarendon Hills Kangarillo (750ml)

$60.00
Robert Parker 90
The 1998 Grenache Kangarilla Vineyard exhibits a medium ruby color, a peppery, Provencal herb-scented nose, soft, earthy, medium to full-bodied flavors, moderate tannin, and a rich, well-concentrated finish. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

1998 Clarendon Hills Liandra (750ml)

$60.00
Robert Parker 91
The dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 Shiraz Liandra Vineyard (1,800 cases) exhibits beautiful, sweet, blackberry fruit intertwined with pepper, saddle leather, and spice. Rhone-like in its aromatics, this rich, full-bodied, compelling Shiraz displays low acidity as well as a fleshy, succulent mouth-feel. It should drink well for 10-15 years. This immense, super-concentrated, muscular wine appears to mirror the personality and stature of proprietor/winemaker Roman Bratasiuk. Clarendon Hills produces some of my favorite Australian wines, and readers looking for flavor, personality, and pleasure, should seek out this limited production gem.

1998 Clarendon Hills Piggott Range Vineyard (750ml)

$90.00
Robert Parker 92
Closed, but exceptionally impressive is the 1998 Shiraz Piggott Range Vineyard (900 cases). Exhibiting slightly revealing aromas, with coaxing some mint-tinged blackberry fruit emerges. Extremely powerful, with remarkable purity, intensity, and extraction, this Shiraz needs 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 15-20.

1998 Classic McLaren Grenache McLaren Vale La Testa Res (750ml)

$75.00
Robert Parker
The 1998 La Testa Grenache Reserve (only 100 cases produced) tasted tightly knit and muscular, with a dense ruby/purple color, hints of sweet strawberry and kirsch-like fruit, but burdened down by excessive wood and tannin. It tasted as if it may have spent too long a time in wood, but perhaps I just caught it in an unflattering period of development. According to the importer, Dan "Makin' Bacon" Philips*, owner/winemaker Tony De Lisio is one of his "greatest discoveries," and "an amazing winemaking talent." Based on this wine, can there be any disagreement?

1999 Clarendon Hills Astralis (750ml)

$335.00
FREE shipping on 6 bottles or more. See all qualified wines
Wine Spectator 95
"Amazingly rich and seductive, a towering wine with layers and layers of rich blackberry, plum, cherry and sweet spice flavors that cascade across a dense structure, polished to a fare-thee-well so the flavors ring, unopposed by tannins; the tannins are present, but totally submerged in the flavors. The kind of wine you want to roll around in."
Wine News 97
Seductive, very fragant, complex nose of toasty oak, black cherry, blackberry and plum, mushroom-like-earthiness, sweet brown spice and vanilla. Rich and well stuffed on the palate, bursting with spicy black fruit plus white pepper and a hint of dried herbs superbly balanced by ascidity and sleeek, ripe tannins. Seamless and captivating from first sniff to the cascading finale.

1999 Clarendon Hills Roma's Vineyard Grenache Old Vines (750ml)

$85.00
Robert Parker 92
The 1999 Grenache Old Vines Romas Vineyard suggests new oak, and exhibits some pain grille, toasty smells. In addition to that, there is the dense, concentrated, kirsch liqueur, raspberry notes intermixed with chewy, ripe, full-bodied, heavy, high alcohol (14.5%) flavors. Full-bodied, with admirable structure, weight, and volume, it will be even better in another 1-2 years, and last for 10-12.

1999 Classic McLaren Blend McLaren Vale La Testa (750ml)

$50.00
Robert Parker 90
An outstanding wine is the 1999 La Testa Blend, a typically Australian concoction of 52% Grenache, 41% Shiraz, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon (70% of this was aged in French oak and the rest in American casks). The wine shows a dense purple color and a big, flamboyant, smoky, black currant, plum, and blackberry-scented nose with noticeable vanillin. Full-bodied, chewy, and full, with a multi-layered texture, good spice, and an exceptional finish certainly made this an impressive offering. Approximately 350 cases were produced.

2001 Clarendon Hills Astralis (750ml)

$345.00
FREE shipping on 6 bottles or more. See all qualified wines
Robert Parker 99
The 2001 Syrah Astralis Vineyard may be just as compelling as the 2002. Tighter because of being in the bottle, it is an extraordinary effort that offers the essence of graphite, blackberry liqueur, espresso, and acacia flowers, all combining into an olfactory smorgasbord for the senses. Sensationally concentrated, with sweet tannin, but neither weighty nor over the top as might be expected for a wine of such extreme richness, it is an extraordinarily well-delineated Syrah that should hit its prime in 10-12 years, and last for 30-40. Hail Caesar ... I mean Roman!

2001 Clarendon Hills Blewitt Springs Grenache Old Vines (750ml)

$75.00
Robert Parker 95+
The 2001 Grenache Old Vines Kangarilla Vineyard's saturated ruby/plum color is followed by a big, extroverted nose of peppery black raspberries, sweet cherries, earth, and loamy soil scents. Awesome concentration, massive body, but good acidity and tannin work in tandem to give definition and vigor to this behemoth. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.

2001 Clarendon Hills Old Vines Grenache, Clarendon Vyd. (750ml)

$65.00
Robert Parker 95+
The 2001 Grenache Old Vines Clarendon Vineyard's soaring aromatics envelop the olfactory senses offering up notes of freshly ground pepper, spice box, plums, figs, black cherries, and balsam wood. Full-bodied, thick, and unctuously-textured with great finishing acidity that gives delineation and uplift to the wine¿s enormous concentration and overall purity, it is a stunning example of old vine Grenache that should drink well for a decade.

2001 Mt. Langi Ghiran, Cliff Edge Shiraz (750ml)

$15.00
Wine Spectator 90
Bright and lively, with a juicy core of blueberry and mulberry fruit at the center, shaded with white and black peppercorn aromas and racy acidity that adds an almost citrusy note as the flavors linger.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 88
Ruby-red. Powerful iron- and pepper-tinged dark berry aromas, with cured tobacco and dried flower accents. A fresh midweight with good focus to its dark cherry and cassis flavors, which are framed by fine-grained tannins. A bit chunky on the finish but this is solid, honest shiraz, with ample structure to improve with age.

2002 Clarendon Hills Astralis (750ml)

Robert Parker 99
The 2002 Syrah Astralis Vineyard rivals the greatest wines Roman Bratasiuk has made in his 15-year career. This compelling, black/blue-hued offering from 75-year-old Syrah vines tastes like blood of the vine. An extraordinary perfume of flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, roasted meat, new saddle leather, and earth is followed by a wine with sweet tannin, sensational concentration, full body, an unctuous texture, and a full-throttle, tannic finish. Yet it reveals unbelievable elegance and finesse. Too many Euro-centric elitists argue that Australian wines are too rich and over the top, but all of these offerings have been made by someone with great talent and vision who takes the extraordinary ripeness and purity of fruit available from these old vine vineyards and crafts them into wines that are quite European in style ... just richer and denser. The 2002 Astralis is a tour de force. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025+.

2003 Felton Road (750ml)

$45.00
FineWine International
The Felton Road Central Otago Pinot Noir is the wine that put them on the map and it has quickly risen to the top of New Zealand Pinot Noirs. Michael Cooper in his Wine Atlas of New Zealand describes it perfectly: "The Pinot Noir is deeply coloured, fragrant and supple, with a surge of rich, sweet fruit flavours and good weight." It is one of the most impressive New Zealand Pinot Noirs we have tasted to date. Highly recommended.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 89
Good bright, deep red. Lively, perfumed aromas of red berries, herbs and spices, plus a rooty complexity. Lush, silky and concentrated but also juicy, spicy and sharply delineated, with impressive energy and pinot tang. The raspberry and wild strawberry flavors are complicated by rooty spices, fresh herbs and earth. Finishes juicy, ripe and gripping, with lovely persistence and a late note of blackberry.

2003 Frankland Estate Olmo's Reward (750ml)

$35.00
Robert Parker 91
""The dark ruby-colored 2003 Olmo's Reward, a blend of 59% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 14% Malbec, and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose reveals fresh herbs, earth notes, mineral, clove, cinnamon, and red currants. Supple with ripe underlying tannin, the wine has a Saint-Emilion-like personality as well as several years of aging potential."

2004 Branson Coach House Shiraz Coach House Barossa (750ml)

Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 94
Saturated purple. Deep, lush and sweet on the nose, with powerful scents of creme de mure, cassis, boysenberry, dark plum and violet. Then elegant and poised on the palate, showing great sweetness of dark fruit and impressive structure, with lively acidity adding focus. Finishes lush, concentrated and long, with dramatic flavors of boysenberry and blackberry liqueur. While there are tannins here, they're folded completely into the wine's huge fruit.
Wine Spectator 95
This ultrarich and decadent Shiraz comes from old vines in Greenock, a prime growing area in the Barossa. They make heady wines that don't weigh you down like some big Shiraz can. This one has zippy acidity to balance the generous layers of black cherry, boysenberry and black plum flavors, shaded with bittersweet chocolate and smoke notes as the finish becomes increasingly plush.

2004 Frankland Estate Shiraz Isolation Ridge (750ml)

$25.00
Robert Parker 92
"... a bright cherry red with an excellent perfume of pepper, underbrush, blueberry, and black cherry. Made in an elegant style (a very different expression than Shiraz from Barossa and McLaren Vale), it has plenty of racy, ripe red and blue fruit, excellent balance, and a pure finish. It will blossom over the next 3-5 years and offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2024."
Wine Enthusiast 93
"This is the sort of Shiraz that forces tasters to re-examine their view of the variety as produced in Australia. It starts off with powerful aromas of cracked pepper and floral notes evocative of violets, then delivers explosively spicy flavors of pepper and licorice cushioned by ripe blackberries and a rich, supple texture. It's the best of New and Old Worlds."

2004 Two Hands Cabernet Aphrodite (750ml)

$165.00
FREE shipping on 6 bottles or more. See all qualified wines
Robert Parker 98
Wine consumers often forget just how brilliant Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can be as the area is far more renowned for its old vine Shiraz and Grenache, but they should take a look at the 2004 Aphrodite, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels. This inky/blue/purple-hued, sexy Cabernet offers a glorious perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, and vanillin. Full-bodied and stunningly rich, with terrific purity, headiness, and laser-like definition as well as precision, this is a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon that would turn heads even among Bordeaux first growths. It is a 30 year wine that should hit its peak in 4-5 years.

2004 Two Hands Shiraz Ares Barossa (750ml)

$165.00
FREE shipping on 6 bottles or more. See all qualified wines
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 95+
Inky violet. Initially brooding, dense and chocolaty, then quickly unwinds to show the full range of dark fruit tones: boysenberry, mulberry, blueberry, blackberry and cassis. A complicating note of smoked meat emerges with air, along with sexy oak spice (this was raised in 100% new French oak of fancy lineage) that adds a sweet impression but doesn't get in the way. Huge, mouthfilling, layered and rich but also remarkably fresh and vibrant, with the dark berry flavors joined by a brighter cherry quality that adds vibrancy and thrust. A powerful suggestion of exotic spicecake develops on the finish, which shows big but thoroughly buffered tannins. Amazing shiraz that should develop for many years to come.
Wine Spectator 97
Two hands, which makes a stunning series of appelation-specific Shiraz wines, has been flirting with true greatness with previous vintages of this wine. The 2004 achieves it. Rich and generous with its sliky tannins and expressive black cherry, black berry, huckleberry and meaty spice notes flitting through the long, round, oak-scented finish. This has great vibrancy and detail, the finish lingering for days.
Robert Parker 96
The 2004 Shiraz Ares is spectacular. Aged 12 months in 100% new French oak, the Ares is produced from the finest 20 barrels from the Bella's Garden cuvee. Inky/blue/purple with notes of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, black currants, licorice, and smoke, this is a full-bodied, super-rich, intense, fabulously pure, rich Shiraz with a multidimensional mid-palate as well as a 45+ second finish. It will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age, and should keep for 2-3 decades.

2005 Two Hands, Lilys Garden Shiraz (750ml)

$70.00
Wine- Maker Notes
Lily's Garden represents our finest barrels of McLaren Vale Shiraz; this is the big sister to our Angels Share Shiraz. As always the wine was matured in seasoned American oak hogsheads, the older barrels offering subtle but complimentary overtones of vanillin spice; enhancing, rather than dominating, the wonderful spicy plum fruit of this wine. Typical of our McLaren Vale style, the 2005 shows delicious distinctive mocha, chocolate and sweet plum characters. Backed by a lush, plush mouthfeel and oodles of juicy ripe fruit laced with an underlying black pepper spice and a silky tight tannin structure . But don¿t be deceived this is a serious wine with serious aspirations!
Robert Parker 94
The 2005 Shiraz ¿Lily¿s Garden¿ from McLaren Vale has a splendid nose of cedar, scorched earth, violets, spice box, saddle leather, and blueberry pie. Rich and super-concentrated, it has layers of ripe flavors, a soft blanket of tannins, and terrific complexity. This surprisingly elegant Shiraz will evolve for 8-10 years and drink well through 2025.

2005 Vavasour, Marlborough (750ml)

$35.00
Wine- Maker Notes
The Vavasour Pinot Noir is a deep garnet colour and shows intense black plum and spice on the nose. The concentrated palate exhibits rich cherry flavours with a long, soft tannin finish. This wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 3 to 4 years.

2006 Amisfield Rocky Knoll Vineyad (750ml)

Wine & Spirits 91
"This is the second time Amisfield seperated out its Rocky Knoll Vineyard block, a glacial deposit of large, heat retaining stones that mostly faces south..Part of the wine was barrel fermented with some whole clusters; part tank fermented with native yeast. The result is intriguing, with textural nuance and dark, mineral tannins invested in the equally dark raspberry fruit... "

2006 Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz (750ml)

$65.00
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93
Ruby-red. Energetic red and dark berry, floral and mineral scents along with a hint of spun sugar. Lively, sharply focused black raspberry and cherry preserve flavors are surprisingly weightless, with back-end mineral bite adding energy. A vibrant, deeply flavored shiraz that's very inviting right now but has the balance to age.
Robert Parker 93
The 2005 Shiraz Bella's Garden was sourced from Barossa Valley. Opaque purple in color, it offers a reticent perfume of pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry. Supple, ripe, and with all components in harmony, this medium-bodied Shiraz has uplifting acidity, excellent depth, and a lengthy finish. It will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020.
