"Medium-full colour. Full, rich with a touch of oak on th enose. Plenty of depth. Full body. Good fruit. Not a bit over-done. Very good grip. This again is harmonious, classy, long and positive. Fine."
Fine Wine Review 90-93
"The Nuits-Boudots shows a nice complexity of black fruits that mix with oak, and round texture. I would sum this wine up with the word sensual."

Extremely ripe, indeed even notes of torrefaction and roast espresso beans precede big, robust, forceful austere black fruit flavors that have slightly drying tannins but not as much density and length as usual. Really quite regal but in more of a middle weight than its normal massive, well muscled and structured character. In short, this is classy, sappy and powerful with the same hint of reduction; again, decant first.

"Full medium red. Pure, complex, perfumed aromas of violet, gunflint, minerals, spices and earth. Sweet but light on its feet, lifted by a note of menthol. Quite youthfully unevolved, but finishes with noteworthy persistence."
Allen Meadows, Burghound 91
"Brooding, backward and quite a bit more reserved and less expressive with subtly spicy black fruit aromas trimmed by a subtle hint of oak and followed by restrained, pure, gorgeously sappy and harmonious, completely seductive flavors that offer the best delineation of any of these wines. This is extraordinarily fine and detailed with length that lasts and lasts. Though this will undoubtedly add weight and complexity, it will likely always be understated and refined rather than powerful. This is a simply sublime combination of spice, silk and velvet delivered in a perfect sphere of impeccable balance. Incredible by any standard but especially so for the vintage.

Allen Meadows, Burghound 92
Knockout sexy black fruit aromas trimmed in a deft touch of oak and distinct animale notes with expressive, full, pure, sweet and quite powerful flavors and a long, persistent, mouth coating finish. The amount of sève is impressive as is the sheer spiciness and this is a good deal more refined than it usually is. A great vintage for this wine.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92+
Good full red. Pure, highly perfumed aromas of cassis, licorice, minerals and flowers. Wonderfully precise and taut in the mouth, with lovely sweetness and terrific verve. A delicate musky quality adds to the wine's complexity. An uncommonly strong vintage for this wine, from a crop level of just 25 hectoliters per hectare.

"Brooding, reserved, somewhat austere yet classic, picture perfect aromas of red and black fruits cut with almost as much spice and aromatic nuances as the La Tâche plus a subtle touch of earth, soy and hoisin that combine to create a bouquet of simply stunning complexity. The purity and detail are flat out incredible with nuanced, multi-layered flavors wrapped in pinot sap and culminating in an awe-inspiring finish. Silk, velvet and mouth coating sap completely buffer the ripe structure and this RC possesses what all of the great ones do - absolutely perfect harmony; this is seamless and there are no edges. It is as it were a perfect sphere with a haunting finish that I could taste hours later. This is destined to be a great wine.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 96+
Medium-deep red. Utterly distinctive nose combines plum, redcurrant, beefsteak tomato, underbrush and grilled vegetables. Wonderfully silky and concentrated, without any rough edges. And yet this thick wine possesses terrific verve, purity and power. Expands inexorably in the middle palate and offers extraordinary building length on the aftertaste. The complex earthy/veggie element turns to rose petal with bottle age, notes de Villaine, adding that this cuvee is nearly always the highest in grape sugars and lowest in acidity among DRC's crus. A splendid wine with a great future. I would not want to touch any of these 2001s for at least a decade.
Neil Martin, Wine Journal, eRobert Parker 96-98
Compared to La Tache definitely a light colour. The nose has moderate intensity, again the oak not completely enmeshed into the fruit. Notes of espresso coffee like La Tache. The palate is very concentrated but not overpowering with well-knit tannins and delectable acidity. The mid-palate stays suspended on the palate: just pure pinot fruits. Good grip with a touch of black truffle on the finish. Magnificent. Better than La Tache this year. 10+ years. (533 cases produced) Tasted February 2004.

"Medium red. Blacker fruits on the nose, lifted by violet and mineral nuances. A step beyond the Echezeaux in sweetness, texture and power. Fuller and more complex, with sappy dark berries complicated by leather and minerals. Finishes with round, sweet tannins and excellent length."
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
"It is immediately evident that this is a deeper and finer wine than the Echézeaux as there is another dimension here with sweet, pure and classic pinot fruit aromas enhanced by subtle nuances of floral flower notes, damp earth, underbrush and even a hint of game. The big, muscular but utterly refined flavors are superbly intense, reserved and backward supported by remarkably sophisticated tannins and stunning length. This is a very concentrated wine of real breed and impeccable balance that should age for 3 decades, perhaps longer."

Good deep, bright red. Dee p aromas of cherry, raspberry, minerals and Asian spices, lifted by a floral quality. Fat, sweet and full but lively; offers great volume without any undue weight. This shows exciting inner-palate energy and finishes with a sexy, deep core of spice. Very pretty, and very long. A superb showing today.
Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate 93
Soy sauce, candied blood oranges, and dark cherries make up the nose of the outstanding 2002 La Tache. Extremely elegant and pure, this light to medium-bodied wine displays a superb satiny texture and a broad blackberry, black cherry, spice, and mineral-flavored character. It boasts a refined, noble personality with an exceedingly long, supple finish. The qualitative and ripeness differences between this wine and the Richebourg is striking as well as confounding.
Wine Spectator 96
Limpid garnet. Absolutely stunning aromas of pure cherry, strawberry and raspberry mark this La Tâche. It's vibrant, balanced and very elegant, with ripe fruit and tannins and a long finish. Very promising future.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 96
This is still rather reserved though determined swirling reveals a nose that is exceptionally fine and pure with fantastic aromatic detail and an almost diaphanous transparency of expression that reveals all of the kaleidoscopic La Tâche spice box nose, including anise, clove, plums, high-toned black cherry, crushed red raspberry and more. The broad, expansive and powerful flavors are still on the strict side with a mid-palate of massive depth yet the finish is round, generous, sappy and superbly complex culminating in a finish that lasts for minutes. Despite the aromatic fireworks and opulent character, there is an underlying tenderness here that suggests that this will be approachable relatively early but the balance is so fine that this should easily age for 30 years, perhaps longer. Tasted thrice recently with consistent notes. 96/2020+

Full medium red. Deep, brooding aromas of strawberry, leather, smoky oak and underbrush. Solid but sullen today; comes across as almost chunky following the Clos de Vougeot and Grands-Echezeaux. Young Romanée-Conti is rarely expressive yet this is as aromatically expressive as the Echézeaux with a gentle touch of wood framing stunningly spicy dark cherry and plum aromas that pull you into the wine with its seductive grace and purity followed by sweet, understated and vibrant medium full flavors that display the best acid/fruit balance of any wine here. This is dense, forceful and long with perhaps more sheer size and muscle than is typical yet the purity of expression and astonishing length is something to behold. But ultimately, just like the La Tâche, what sets this apart from all the others is not its power, not its richness and not its complexity but rather its completeness. There is a serenity here that cannot be duplicated and must be experienced to really be believed. A great wine by any measure and one that will also be capable of aging with poise for decades.

"Very good deep red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of raspberry, earth, Oriental spices, truffle and smoke; shows a slight suggestion of surmaturite but at the same time is perked up by a suggestion of menthol. Then sweet and supple, with very good definition and a light touch for 2003. Finishes with big tannins and impressive density and length."
Robert Parker 95
"Perhaps the biggest Romanee-St.-Vivant produced at this domaine, the 2003 offers aromatics as well as flavors reminiscent of black fruits drenched in dark chocolate. Full-bodied, velvety-textured, as well as concentrated, it is immensely ripe, crammed with tannin, and vaunts an amazingly long finish."
Allen Meadows, Burghound 94
"In contrast to the aromatic explosiveness of the Grands Ech, this is a good deal more reserved but much more elegant with floral and subtle spice notes adding nuance to the upper register ripe black fruit aromas that are clearly pinot in basic character. The flavors aren't as big or muscular as the Grands but there is better precision, elegance and purity here with strikingly complex and refined flavors that are supple on the mid-palate but quite firm on the finish. There is the barest trace of warmth but it's a background note and this is superbly classy juice. The '01 RSV laid to rest the now dated notion that this wine isn't at the same level as the rest of the range here and this hammers home the point with authority. A great wine of enormous class and style and it is perhaps the freshest wine in the range in 2003."

"Notes of ripe plum, mocha, dark pinot fruit, earth, spice, a bit of wood and wet leather make for a potent and highly expressive nose that complements the massive, incredibly powerful and long flavors that have simply unbelievable intensity and that lovely natural sweetness of the finest burgundies. The flavors just explode in the mouth, displaying wonderful inner mouth perfume and dazzling texture and this literally lingers for minutes. This will one day be a monument and it will need years before it's completely ready so be prepared to have plenty of patience."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93+
Deep medium red. Wild, very reduced nose offers raspberry, mocha and flowers. Dense and thick but initially mute owing to the reduction; obviously huge, broad, chewy and rich. Finishes with very sweet, thoroughly buffered tannins and hints of spices and blood orange. I followed this wine for 72 hours as it slowly absorbed oxygen. By day three it was a deep ruby-red color and showed spectacular aromas of black raspberry, strawberry, mocha and minerals, and a compelling velvety texture achieved by very few 2003s, with no lack of underlying acidity. While superripe it is not at all cooked, and it shed 90% of its reductive quality. But this will require at least a decade of cellaring.

"A background trace of wood underscores rich and gorgeously perfumed plumy pinot aromas that lead to elegant, powerful and dense but velvety flavors that offer good mid-palate punch and a sappy, delicious, impressively complex finish. "This is the first wine to display any wood at all as subtle oak spice frames somber red and black fruit aromas that are ripe but unquestionably pinot-based. The earthy, dense, concentrated and powerful flavors stain and coat the palate with copious amounts of extract and real punch. Like so many of this group, this isn't elegant but again, its got excellent depth of material."
Wine Spectator 91
"A mix of freshness and ripe black cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors mark this intense, muscular Pommard. Dense with fruit and tannins, they meet on the long finish. This needs time. Drink now through 2020."
Wine Enthusiast 88
"This is a powerful, structured wine, with dark tannins, a dry feel and ripe fruit flavors. Somewhat out of balance now but should even out as it ages."

Medium red. Rather exotic aromas of liqueur-like red fruits, spices, leather and underbrush. Silky, seductive and a bit decadent in its early sex appeal, but with its lively acids and apparent oak tannins this has a slight dry edge. Firmed up with air and gained in freshness.
Wine Enthusiast 93
Pure, fine fruits along the line of raspberry and dark plums-there's almost a dancing quality to this wine, with its freshness and lightness, with acidity and red currants giving the most delicate of finishing touches.

Good deep red. Less expressive but still utterly sexy nose offers plum, raspberry, flowers, smoke and earth. Hints at its superb volume but this is quite closed and tightly knit today, and much less expressive and sweet than La Tache. But this superconcentrated wine seemed to gain sweetness with aeration, showing an increasingly fat, seamless texture without any loss of energy as it opened in the glass. Really saturates the palate on the aftertaste, where the tannins are thoroughly buffered by the wine's strong extract and superb depth.
Wine Enthusiast 97
tTis wine's considerable power derives from its solid texture, its multifaceted red-berry flavors, juiciness, freshness and perfect balancing acidity. You can, and you will want to, hold tis in the mouth for many minutes. It is a complete wine.

"A gentle hint of wood frames equally elegant and exceptionally pure red berry and cherry fruit aromas that display a bit of Gevrey earth and complement perfectly the round, rich, sweet and detailed flavors that are notably refined. The finish is dusty to the point of dryness though I suspect that this is from the racking that was done the day before this tasting as the mid-palate is really quite succulent plus there is good phenolic maturity. This too should age well though there is somewhat less structure present compared to the Gruenchers."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90
Lovely floral lift to the aromas of red fruits, spices and minerals. Juicy and perfumed in the mouth, with captivating flavors of red cherry, rose petal and minerals. Little sign of greenness here. This boasts lovely clarity of flavor and a juicy, penetrating, youthfully tight finish featuring dusty tannins.
Wine Enthusiast 93
A ripe, open, opulent wine, with all the right generous Pinot Noir flavors. But it's also spiced with tannins, flaovrs ofloganberries, pepper, herbs and a healthy layer of acidity. Given its tannic structure, this wine should age well over 10 years.

Good medium red. Pure aromas of red fruits lifted by spices and rose petal; less mocha and underbrush here than in the Nuits bottlings. A lovely fruity 2004 with enticing flavors of spicy red berries; more charming than the Clos des Forets Saint-Georges but with a bit less energy. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and very good length.

The 2005 Echezeaux delivers ravishingly sweet, high-toned aromas of black raspberry, maraschino, marzipan, marmalade and iodine. It saturates the palate with sweet, ripe fruit and inner-mouth perfume, while introducing layers of fresh meat and shrimp-shell minerality. The texture is amazingly creamy and polished, and the long, refined finish adds an alluring hint of mocha. Superb saturation of ultra-ripe fruit but with freshness; remarkable concentration yet elegance, lift, indeed near weightlessness: this is 2005 at its best. The temptation to drink this in its early years will, I suspect, be irresistible ... let¿s hope so anyway. It would be a shame for this beauty to be locked away as a collectible, even if it is capable of long-aging. David Schildknecht

The 2005 La Tache epitomizes the unique mysteries of Pinot (not to mention the character of a great site), with its aromas of game, musk, iris, star anise, vanilla, allspice, and naturally also an abundance of sweet, ripe, implosively tiny-berried fruit. Imagine a black Riesling. On the palate, a vivid freshness of fruit, pungency of spice and flowers, and melting away of what in point of analytical fact are abundant tannins, all engender an almost white wine dynamic of fruit-mineral call-and-response and clear, incisive penetration of flavors to every recess of the mouth. This is a T.R. sort of wine ¿ you just don¿t feel the stick. David Schildknecht
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 96+
Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of cherry, currant, tobacco and smoky, nutty oak, with traces of vanilla and sweet butter; showing less of the early treble notes of flowers and spices than usual for La Tache but they are lurking in the background. Then wonderfully supple, silky and sweet, conveying an impression of brooding extract; quite large-scaled for young La Tache but not yet differentiated. This showed an increasingly tactile quality with aeration but remained rather monolithic. Finishes with wonderfully broad, ripe tannins. This, too, appears to be shutting down but all the elements are in place to make a monumental bottle.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 99
There really is not all that much difference between the way this bottle showed and my original review from late 2007 other than the nose of this most recent experience is notably less exuberant. However it remains just as kaleidoscopic and dazzling with its array of red and black cherry, cassis, plum and subtle earth notes replete with beguiling Asian spice cabinet aromas and essence of rose petals. The intense, powerful and breathtakingly concentrated flavors possess a taut muscularity before culminating in a palate coating finish of simply huge length. Not surprisingly, this is still structured to the point of being chewy yet it is never rustic or coarse because the gorgeously detailed palate impression is buffered by buckets of dry extract. As readers know, I often use the word Zen to describe the kind of inner harmony of a great vintage of Romanée-Conti but rarely with La Tâche yet in 2005, the LT has this element of inner calm and grace as well. In sum, I remain confident that this huge but utterly classy and stylish wine will go down as one of the all-time great LT's. 99/2030+

"Plump and juicy, with spicy cherry and raspberry flavors. It has mouthwatering acidity and an elegant frame. A good introduction to the region and the vintage."
Wine- Maker Notes
Vineyard Site: on the hill overlooking the city of Beaune. This appellation should not be confused with Côte de Beaune-Villages (a blend of various villages from the Côte de Beaune). Tasting note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin "A true delight and a great harmony! A beautiful purple colour. On the nose, delicate and fruity aromas such as strawberry and red currant. On the palate, the tannins are refined and lend a nice roundness to the body. Elegant aftertaste". Vintage Pure delight in all the appellations. The colour is ruby red, very intense. The aromas are well marked and classic notes of little red berries dominate. All the reds have a consistent structure, based on good balance between acidity, alcohol and tannin. It is this balance that gives the wines such elegance. The tannins are ripe and refined. They harmonize nicely with a refreshing acidity devoid of astringency. The exquisite fruit found in the range of lesser villages in Burgundy is charming the wine lovers everywhere. The Premier and Grand Crus have been somewhat closed these last few months. Their structure tends to dominate the bouquet and aromas. It would be unfortunate to drink these wines now. The aging potential of the Grand Crus is certainly several decades, although it will be possible to enjoy them earlier.

Good deep red. Captivating aromas of cherry, smoke, iron, earth and menthol. Following the collection of 2006s here, this showed more intensity and depth, not to mention a convincing personality. Finishes with excellent persistence and a suggestion of leather.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 90-92
A pretty nose of red pinot fruit, earth and a hint of the sauvage that can also be found on the big, deep and broad flavors that possess excellent power and culminate in a long, muscular and firmly structured finish. This is well balanced and also very Pommard in character.

A mix of Vosne spice and wood spice adds nuance to the dense dark black cherry aromas that complement the rich, concentrated, sweet and intense full-bodied flavors that are moderately structured, complex and palate staining. The dusty finish displays a solid but ripe tannic spine and this should age well over the mid-term, which is to say over the next 10 years.
Wine Spectator 92
Exhibits plenty of spicy oak, along with macerated cherry, plum and licorice. It's balanced, if sharp and peppery, and shows class, with a long finish. Needs time for all the components to come together.

"From barrel, the 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos des Forets St.-Georges offers aromas and deep richness of plum and blackberry, with hints of cinnamon, coconut, caramel, and salt. Deep, meaty flavors well up as one works this wine around in the air. It displays impressive amplitude, abundant but relatively fine-grained tannins, and an impressively long cling. This is a wine that frequently surprises with its ageworthiness, so while I imagine enjoying it at 5-7 years age, it will probably hold well for some years thereafter. (The 2004 rendition, incidentally, is quite satisfying, though not, I think, built to age." David Schildknecht
Allen Meadows, Burghound 92
A slightly riper nose of plum, anise, warm earth and violets combines with big and exceptionally rich sleekly muscled flavors that possess excellent volume on the mid-palate and plenty of sève to balance off the firmly structured but velvety and superbly long finish. This is very masculine in style, indeed even robust and slightly rustic yet it carries itself with balanced grace.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90-93
Bright ruby-red. A perfumed basket of fruits on the nose. Powerful, rich and spicy on the palate, with intense, taut, compellingly sweet flavors of blackberry, chocolate and minerals. This was much more rigid before the racking, noted Leriche, but it has evolved quickly and positively since then. Grew silkier as it opened in the glass, the firm tannins spreading out horizontally on the slowly mounting, very persistent back end.

'My notes on the 2005 Musigny Vieilles Vignes represent a composite impression from a selection of barrels. There can be little question that this deep, dark wine displays its class of origin, indeed a class of its own in this year¿s collection. Fresh black raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, and iris dominate the nose and stain the palate. A wealth of spice, mineral, chalky and bitter-sweet floral nuances persistently wreath the fruit at all stages. This shows lovely creaminess of texture in counterpoint to the persistent freshness of fruit. The intensely rich yet refreshing palate saturation and tenacious cling exhibited auger well for extended cellaring yet don¿t detract from an impression of utmost elegance and refinement. The domaine will begin bottling the wines in spring and all will, as usual, receive ¿the minimum, gentlest possible¿ filtration. Francois Millet notes that skin-to-juice ratios this year were as formidably high as those of 2003, yet thanks to relatively mild temperatures, the fruit retained what he terms a ¿sorbet-like presentation.¿" David Schildknecht
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 95-97+
Deep red-ruby. Knockout nose combines red and black fruits, minerals, licorice, herbs and spices. Thick but sappy, with terrific verve and a youthfully restrained sweetness. This is at another level of intensity, density and thrust from the estate's other wines. Finishes with uncanny palate-staining length and spice character, as well as outstanding aromatic lift.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 99
A positively brilliant nose of violet and rose petal shines against a background of intensely spiced extravagant red and black pinot fruit nuanced by hints of earth and stone and this minerality continues onto the surprisingly supple flavors that convey a remarkable sense of energy and power on the almost unbelievably intense, focused and structured finish that seems to go on and on with end. And the '05 VV has what all truly great burgundies have which is that extra dimension of power without weight as this carries terrific punch and power yet delivers that explosiveness with impeccable class and grace. While I am duly mindful of the many legendary wines this domaine has produced (see the database for all vintages reviewed dating to 1919), the 2005 could very well join the list of the all time greats, there is really that much potential here. Whether it will ultimately transcend the heights achieved by the 1919 or the 1949 (among many others) remains an open question, I have zero doubt that 2005 will be a genuinely great vintage for this wine.

Here the less expressive but very floral nose is spicier and ever so slightly riper with a range of black and blue fruit aromas nuanced by hints of earth and a touch of the sauvage that is also picked up by the rich, round and notably pure flavors that are more elegant than usual, all wrapped in a textured and punchy finish that is dry in the best sense and comes across as very clean and crisp. I very much like the overall sense of balance and about the only nit is a trace of backend warmth.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92
Good full red. Pretty, nuanced aromas of red fruits, flowers and tobacco. Wonderfully tactile and juicy, with terrific acid cut giving grip to the sappy red berry and saline flavors. Finishes with sweet tannins and lovely lingering perfume. This struck me as exuberant and expansive for a grand cru from this year-and that's hardly a complaint. A big success for this cuvee

Deep red. Lovely high-pitched aromas and flavors of raspberry, minerals, flowers and spices; this could go into a time capsule. Then juicy, pure and almost magically light on its feet, with terrific verve and spicy lift. With air, a note of smoky underbrush emerged, but in comparison to this sappy wine the 2005 is distinctly more sauvage Finishes with sweet but firm tannins and outstanding purity and persistence."
Allen Meadows, Burghound 96
As noted in the original review just after bottling, the once reserved nose is now starting to come out of its shell as there is plenty of the hallmark spice and floral components that are broad and deep and while the aromas are still on the restrained side, they are still most impressive. The big and generous flavors are an exercise in contrasts as they are at once round and rich while remaining wonderfully defined and precise with an intense minerality coming to the fore, all wrapped in a linear, precise and palate staining finish that not is explosive. Even at such a young age, the palate impression is entirely harmonious and the transparency and purity of expression are something to see. As I noted in the original review, while I do not argue that the '06 La Tâche rivals vintages like '99 or '05, there is something special about this one that causes me to already be in love with it. In a word, magnificent and my original description needs no modification except perhaps to observe that this is a Zen-like vintage for La Tâche as it is very calm and deliberate in demeanor. 96/2026+

Deep red. Sexy, highly perfumed nose offers red fruits, cocoa powder and earth. Dense and sappy, showing more energy and cut today than the Grands-Echezeaux. Also conveys strong soil tones but here there's a compelling mid-palate sweetness and the tannins are quite fine.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
This is more elegant still but equally restrained as the almost discreet nose runs toward the plum and blue berry side of the fruit spectrum. The floral-infused, structured and very serious flavors culminate in a youthfully austere finish offering huge depth and length with both precision and linearity though there is a trace of dryness to the underlying tannins, which presently compromises the balance just enough where this is not quite at the same level as the very best in the range.

"Good medium-deep red. Wonderfully pure, penetrating aromas of cassis, black raspberry, minerals and spices. Denser and more spherical than La Tache, offering a compelling combination of raspberry and mineral high notes and lower earth tones. Wonderfully tactile, building finish saturates the taste buds with flavor."
Allen Meadows, Burghound 97
Here too is a very reserved yet ultra classy and refined, indeed even ethereal nose that is quite simply kaleidoscopic in its breadth, combining red, blue and black fruits with spice, earth, minerality and a hint of underbrush that stands aside for the perfectly balanced, pure and stylish medium full flavors that are very firmly but not aggressively structured while delivering flat out unbelievable length yet all the while remaining completely understated in personality. As are all the very best vintages of RC, this is spherical with nothing out of place and this will age effortlessly for decades. The La Tâche is truly spectacular but there is simply another dimension of depth present here. A wine of sheer class and the epitome of the phrase 'power without weight'.

'The Drouhin 2006 Chambolle-Musigny is based largely on contract fruit, although some estate juice is present, especially in this year of rigorous selection and assemblage. A darkly forest floor, roasted meat, bitter-sweet black fruit, clove, and pepper set of flavors renders this far more somber than I anticipated. Texturally, it is quite refined, with a hint of creaminess. Chalky and saline mineral notes and a fresh fruit skin edge lend invigoration and refreshment to a satisfyingly long finish in which the sense of darkness is subliminated, if not dissipated. There is something of a role reversal with this year's Gevrey, as the latter is more winsome and less vigorous. This could use a bit of bottle time to explore its potential synergies, but will I suspect be best enjoyed within 3-4 years." David Schildknecht.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 88-90
While not quite as refined as the beautiful Lavaut, the expressive nose combines airy and notably cool red pinot fruit with round, supple and more generous flavors that possess fine focus and detail if not the class and depth. Still, remember that despite a majority of the blend being from a 1er, that this remains a villages and thus it delivers better than average quality for its level. Outstanding
Wine- Maker Notes
Tasting note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin "Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. Long aftertaste, with notes of cherry and candied fruit". Vintage They have a beautiful ruby colour, so typical of pinot noir. Their bouquet is pure, lively and conjures up little red berries. True to the various terroirs, the 2006 vintage has produced rather elegant wines in Côte de Beaune, but wines with more flesh and structure in Côte de Nuits. These most enjoyable wines - expressing the qualities of both pinot noir and their Burgundian terroirs - will be a source of pleasure now and in the future.

This too is wonderfully fine and pure with a seductive nose that pulls you into airy, nuanced and layered mineral-infused red pinot fruit aromas where the minerality is also picked up by the lacy, refined and equally pure barely middle weight flavors that possess really lovely definition and finishing vibrancy. The phenolic maturity is right at the limit to avoid edginess and this should mature nicely over the next 5 to 7 years.
Wine Spectator 92
An enticing display of sweet cherry, berry and spice notes, with a firm, yet well-integrated structure for support. It's concentrated and powerful, with a long mineral and spice-inflected aftertaste.

A pretty red berry nose also displays notes of chalk, spice and a touch of smoke that merges into round, sweet, fresh and nicely complex medium-bodied flavors that possess good vibrancy and detail on the sappy and mouth coating finish that is slightly edgy, undoubtedly due to the severe hail storm that hit the vineyard in late July.
Wine Enthusiast 93
Initially, this seems soft, big but gentle. Only slowly do the tannins come through, and even then they are nly part of the supremely rich wine. It has concentration followed by chunky fruits, finished with almost jammy sweetness. Obviously appealing ow, those tannins will see it age well.

This is shut down tight with thick reduction blocking any reasonable evaluation of the nose though the relatively big and weighty flavors are concentrated, serious and solidly structured. This seems quite promising as the underlying material is impressive but note that this will not be a precocious example of Charmes.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90
Bright, dark red. Black cherry, smoked meat, mocha and underbrush on the soil-inflected nose. Lush, broad and sweet, with noteworthy complexity of flavor. A substantial wine that finishes with serious tannins. Needs at least five to seven years of patience.

Despite the presence of a touch of reduction the nose still manages to be fresh and ripe with obvious minerality on the rich, full and distinctly elegant flavors that display controlled power and focus on the dense, long and serious finish. Oddly, given the character of the vintage, this seems more masculine, indeed distinctly muscular, than normal yet it carries the additional weight with grace and harmony.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90
Good dark red. Reserved but complex nose offers black raspberry, smoked meat, spicecake and minerals. Dense, serious and youthfully closed, with flavors of small wild berries and spices. Finishes with somewhat tougher tannins than the Morey premier crus and thus a bit more rustic today.

Mild reduction can't completely hide the mostly red berry fruit, earth and hints of game-infused nose that introduces ripe, serious and beautifully pure flavors that are supported by very firm yet sophisticated tannins on the admirably long and mouth coating finish. Lovely.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 88
Medium red. Briary black raspberry, licorice, menthol and a whiff of spice on the nose. Supple, concentrated and sweet, with good depth to its dark fruit and earth flavors. Finishes persistent, with dusty tannins.
