Wine Spectator 93
A wild wine, with full-throttle, ripe flavors. Very exotic, with perfumed crushed grape, toast and honey aromas. Full-bodied, with lots of fruit and a hint of orange peel on the finish.
Robert Parker 93
The Batard possesses a gorgeous aroma of oranges, flowers, butter, and minerals. In the mouth, it is pure buttery fruit supported admirably by crisp acidity and a deft touch of toasty new oak. A big wine by the Leflaive's standards, it should drink magnificently for at least 10-12 years.

1989 Louis Latour Batard Montachet (750ml)

$260.00

Robert Parker 96
Among Louis Latour's grands crus, the 1989 Batard-Montrachet is absolutely spectacular, a near perfect example of just how riveting Batard-Montrachet can be. Even though it is much more developed than the 1989 Corton-Charlemagne or 1989 Montrachet, it should last as long as either of them. The bouquet is bursting with flavors of oranges, smoky oak, toast, and butterscotch. In the mouth there is enormous richness, gobs of glycerin and extraction of flavor, and surprisingly high acidity in view of the wine's massiveness and extract levels. Drink this spectacular Batard-Montrachet over the next 10-15 years. This is an outstanding white burgundy by any standard of measurement. Don't miss it!
Allen Meadows, Burghound 92
A huge and enveloping nose of ripe orchard fruit and white flower aromas that are still largely primary in character leads to classic Bâtard-like flavors as they're exceptionally powerful and extremely rich and long. This is impressive juice and while not the most elegant '89, this is really quite stylish and still on the way up.

A wine with laser-guided flavors. Intense pear, lemon, vanilla and coconut character. Great backbone and superb, fresh finish. Best after 1996

1990 Leroy Corton Charlemagne (750ml)

Robert Parker 91
Leroy's 1990 Corton-Charlemagne, is an oaky, bold, dramatic wine, with huge quantities of fruit, glycerin, and what appears to be tannin. Long, dense, and ripe, this wine needs at least 10 years of cellaring; it should keep for 25 years.

1994 Boillot, Jean Marc Puligny Montrachet Les Combottes (750ml)

Wine Spectator 93
Amazing balance and concentration for a '94, showing both finesse and power, beckoning you back for another sip. Ripe-tasting, honey- and mineral-scented, lemon-spiked nectar. Shows a deft hand at keeping things on track from start to finish.
Robert Parker 93
A tasty example of white Burgundy, the 1994 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes reveals the succulent fatness and explosive buttery, honeyed, nutty character of a top-notch Meursault. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, flamboyant, and showy. It is a decadent white Burgundy to drink over the next 5 years. The Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot in Pommard has emerged over the last few years as one of the up and coming stars, especially for white Burgundy. The 25 acres of vineyards are evenly split between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but Boillot has superb parcels in many of the top Puligny-Montrachet vineyards. The wines represent classic examples of white Burgundy, with good acid levels and terrific delineation and purity. I thought the 1994s to be the finest wines I have yet tasted from Boillot.

1995 Drouhin Chassagne Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche (750ml)

Robert Parker 90
The Chassagne Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche is produced from the 1er Cru Morgeot vineyard, yet is not permitted to carry a 1er Cru designation because the Drouhins want it to bear the Laguiche name. The 1995 exhibits an unyielding but fresh and austere nose as well as deep minerally flavors complemented by anise and other spices, an oily texture, and a substantial finish.

This luscious white pours like oil into the glass. Complex aromas of honey and spices, rich, soft, sweet flavors of dried fruits, honey, vanilla and butterscotch. Though very sweet, it has lively acidity. Drink now through 2025.

1995 Niellon Chevalier Montrachet (750ml)

$720.00

Wine Spectator 95
Shows great class. A superconcentrated wine, subtle and racy, its loads of mineral, wet stone, and vanilla-cream flavors both powerful and subtle. Remarkable harmony. Full-bodied and a pleasure to taste now, but clearly better after 2005
Allen Meadows, Burghound 95
A definite candidate for wine of the vintage with its superb fruit offering powerful mineral, limestone and intensely detailed citrus aromas followed by muscular, dense and incredibly long flavors of remarkable complexity. The purity this displays rivals that of the spectacular 96 though the tactile impression is quite different between the two wines. More than a few Burgundy lovers believe that the Bâtard is Niellon's best wine but for my money and taste preferences, the Chevalier is the clear class of this cellar.

Robert Parker 92
Aromatically, the Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets displays fabulous ripeness, liquid stones and anise. On the palate this complex and deep wine has layers of sweet and delicious minerals, buttery pears, and a touch of honey. Medium-to-full-bodied, refined and powerful, this beauty's extraordinary focus and concentration may, in time, make my score appear stingy. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2009.

1996 Jadot Batard Montachet (750ml)

Robert Parker 92-95
Maison Louis Jadot's Batard-Montrachet has a super-ripe, intensely floral nose and a massive, muscular, dense, oily-textured, and full-bodied core of sweet fruit. White peaches, poached pears, juniper berries, and oak nuances can be discerned in this opulent yet focused wine. It should be at its peak from 2003-2010.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 91
Classic '96 in style and character with intense, pure, airy and superbly elegant, still entirely primary white fruit aromas followed by medium weight, delineated and cut flavors that offer wonderful length and first class transparency. What this is not is especially dense but the purity, vibrancy and sheer length are most impressive.

1997 Jadot Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles (750ml)

Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93+
Discreet aromas of lemon, orange peel, minerals, coconut and marzipan. Tactile and sharply delineated, with the wine strong mineral spine buttressed by bright acidity. A wine of superb grip, but there's still some acidity to be absorbed. Chewy, impressively long finish features a ripe note of pineapple. I'd give this at least a few years of additional bottle aging.
Robert Parker 93-94
Jadot's Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles is a fabulous wine. Its nose was slightly reticent the day of my tasting, reluctantly revealing nuts, minerals, and stones. However, its spectacular presence on the palate more than demonstrated its greatness. This is an offering of outstanding richness and density. It is crammed with candied hazelnuts, almonds, as well as spicy minerals. It also has an ethereal quality that I sometimes find in the best Chevaliers. This is one of the rare 1997s from the Cote de Beaune that will age for at least a decade. Drink it between 2003 and 2012.

Robert Parker 92-94
The Chablis Valmur has toasted hazelnut, eucalyptus, lemon, and stone-like aromas. It is big and delineated and has a velvety-textured, precise, and complex core of white/red berries intermingled with spiced pears and anise. It lasts long on the palate. This blockbuster is an extraordinary wine, in addition to offering further evidence of Guffens' brilliant winemaking skills. Drink it between 2001 and 2007+.

Robert Parker 92-94
Displaying fresh butter, minerals, and candied lemon scents, the Corton-Charlemagne is a profoundly rich yet structured wine. It is intense, highly concentrated, powerful, full-bodied, refined, and beautifully delineated. Baked apples, kiwis, stones, and hints of mango are found in this beauty's flavor profile and throughout its impressively long finish. While it is a delight to drink now, this is one of those rare 1997s that is likely to be better with a few years of cellaring. Projected maturity: 2002-2008+.

Robert Parker 92-93
The magnificent Meursault Charmes Vieilles Vignes will provide consumers with years of pleasure. Its extremely expressive aromatics reveal earthy red fruit scents interspersed with new oak spices. On the palate, this full-bodied, broad, powerful, highly concentrated, and magnificently focused wine offers multiple dimensions of minerals, nuts, super-ripe apples, and grilled oak flavors. This huge, yet refined Meursault pleases the intellect with its purity and complexity, yet will also satisfy hedonists with its thick, chewy, and sultry depth of fruit.

Robert Parker 92-94
Verget's Meursault Poruzots is a work of art. Its drool-inducing nose of candied hazelnuts and lemons leads to a full-flavored and humongous personality densely packed with tropical fruits, and nuts. This wine is amazingly ripe yet has impeccable precision and balance, an anomaly given its oily, almost viscous texture. Many wines, tasted at this stage of their elevage, appear to be holding some of their components in reserve. This offering flaunts everything it has in an unabashedly sexy and voluptuous manner.

Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
Big, rich and muscular yet this offers excellent definition with explosive fruit trimmed in obvious anise notes and luxuriant, sappy, dense flavors of uncommon depth and complexity. The finish is rather linear presently yet offers wave after wave of mouthwatering extract, all beautifully framed by more than sufficient buffering acidity. A Bâtard worthy of the name and a great success for the vintage.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92
Highly perfumed aromas of peach, nut oil and spring flowers. Thick and sappy, with youthfully clenched but highly concentrated fruit framed by harmonious acidity. Fat and creamy, but the wine's 2.2 grams per liter of residual sugar are well buffered by its firm minerality. Finishes chewy and long, with a distinct saline character. Showing well considering the recent bottling.

"Toast, minerals, pears, and hints of citrus fruits make up the aromatic profile of the 2003 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanee (white). This excellent, refined wine is one of the two whites Dancer acidified (the other is the village Chassagne). It reveals lovely depth of fruit, a medium-bodied personality, and a silky, well-fashioned character filled with pears, minerals, and spices whose effects linger in its long finish. Projected maturity: now-2010."

A focused beam, this white wraps its lime, mineral, apple and vanilla notes around a core of bracing acidity. Has intensity and balance, yet this is firm and crisp on the finish for now, with real stony length. Best from 2010 through 2030.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
Now that this is in bottle, it's even better than I originally thought with a still reserved yet elegant nose of white flower, green apple, pear and natural spice and wet stone notes that introduce detailed, fresh and wonderfully intense flavors that are exceptionally clean and bright, culminating in a bone dry finish replete with superb minerality. This is not as dense as the '05 but the purity here is really something to see and as noted last year, it's sufficiently structured that it will need the better part of a decade to reach its apogee. Note that there was a trace of reduction on the nose and this would benefit from 30 minutes in a decanter should you elect to try one anytime soon.

2004 is one of those vintages that confers elegance and refinement even on those terroirs where typically, those attributes are often in short supply. Such is the case here as this is unusually pure, elegant and transparent and while this is certainly bigger, richer and more powerful than any of the preceding wines, there is both subtlety and sophistication here and if this can develop its usual level of depth and complexity, it could merit a higher score still. This has grand cru weight, power and length and it will be interesting to see how it develops with time in bottle as this is a vintage that seems to have favored Criots very well.

"Medium yellow. Strongly mineral aromas of cold steel, crushed stone, apple and clove. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, with wonderfully aromatic flavors of peach, white flowers and minerals..."
Allen Meadows, Burghound 92-94
An elegant and high-toned airy nose with apparent but not intrusive oak influence dissolves into round, rich and sweet layered flavors that are surprisingly open and accessible for a young Chevalier but then the finish tightens up instantly and the expected explosion of pungent minerality arrives, almost without warning. This is a relatively powerful Chevalier, indeed it could be mistaken for a mineral-driven Montrachet.

Very pure, perfumed aromas of peach and white flowers. Juicy and taut, with sharply delineated flavors of peach, lemon, flowers and minerals. Lovely harmonious acidity extends the wine's finish. The first of these wines to show "the real final balance" of 2004, notes Morey.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
A mildly reduced nose features honeysuckle and acacia blossom notes introduces sweet, rich and beautifully complex flavors of impressive purity and vibrancy with brilliant length. A terrific effort that has the hallmark softness of Pucelles while retaining a firm and tangy, indeed almost linear finish that displays more minerality than usual.

The Bachelet brothers have taken this old estate and created a new one with outstanding results. The Batard Montrachet is deep, complex and brooding, with full weight, spicy citrus and slate-like mineral infused flavors, and ending in a long fully extended finish. It should develop even more depth and complexity with 7+ years of aging.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92
) Bright, pale yellow. Reticent, even austere, on the nose, hinting at honeyed depths. Then fat, full and powerful, with very ripe pineapple and apricot flavors framed by firm acidity. An impressively structured grand cru with terrific fruit and grip. With aeration, more oak notes of vanilla and toast emerged, along with a captivating orange quality. I find this considerably more backward than the 2006.

The estate of Michel Buisson ? whose son-in-law Patrick Essa now takes the lead ? crafts white Burgundies for the Riesling or Chenin-lover, offering clarity, refreshment, and minerality yet not stinting on richness or structure, and wines whose track record in the cellar is among the best of any Chardonnay-based wines in the world. Slow, vertical pressing, unhurried fermentation, largely non-new barrels passive lees contact (i.e. no stirring), and late (unfined, and usually lightly-filtered) bottling figure in the Buisson regimen.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 89-92
"Here the nose is still a bit on the raw side with fermentation aromas that have not yet completely dissipated though in the background one can discern ripe peach and peach hints that continue onto the full-bodied, powerful and rather muscular flavors that also display a natural sweetness on the mouth coating, linear and vibrant finish. This is actually an elegant Bouchères because despite the impressive size, it remains light and pure on the palate."

Knockout nose combines stone fruits, menthol, nutmeg and spicy nut oils. Fat and sweet to the point of unctuous but with harmonious, ripe acidity (4.0 grams) giving shape to this wonderfully sweet and full wine. (The Bienvenue is actually a bit lower in acidity.) This is like a liquid confection and should be terrific young and with bottle age. These are very old vines:Girardin relies on repiquage, replanting individual vines as they fail.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
A background touch of wood influence that is more toast than spice or vanilla highlights wonderfully fresh, elegant and high-toned white flower and exotic fruit aromas and this exotic aspect continues onto the succulent, round and full-bodied flavors that culminate in a punchy, intense and driving finish that is quite dry and contrasts nicely with the sweetness of the mid-palate. This is a classic Bâtard and is robust and seriously intense if not exactly a model of finesse but this is a nit and nothing more.

Pale, bright yellow. High-pitched nose hints at minerals and menthol; showing much less fruit today than the comparatively flamboyant Batard. Firmly built, classy and minerally, but quite elegant and discreet. Less complex and generous today than the Batard but there's still plenty of sweetness here. This will require at least three to five years of bottle aging.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93
An airy and elegant floral and spice nose that is distinctly higher-pitched is trimmed in a deft touch of wood and while the oak is more prominent on the palate, it doesn't seem to unduly compromise the detail or delineation of the minerally medium weight flavors that are delicious, classy and persistent. There is a citrus component to the finish, which adds lift. In short, excellent if not mind blowing and a good deal more forward than a classically structured Chevy.

Very ripe aromas of peach, hazelnut and minerals; smells like a Puligny on the Meursault border, which it is. The sweetest of these wines to this point, but with good ripe acidity framing the fruit and giving the wine energy. Wonderfully smooth and fat but also has solid underlying structure. Finishes with lingering suggestions of exotic fruits. These vines average 50 years of age, says Girardin, who always harvests early in this plot.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 92
Here the nose is more reserved with discreet hints of pain grillé, anise, ripe orchard fruit and spiced pear aromas that introduce rich, pure, full, intense and powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess a trace of underlying minerality and an utterly beguiling texture on the vibrant and very fresh finish. Good stuff here and recommended.

Powerful aromas of peach, spices and truffle. Big, rich and ripe (part of the fruit here reached 14.7% natural alcohol, the highest at the estate, and the blend is now about 14.2%), with slightly elevated alcohol. Avoids coming off as heavy, but the finish shows a slight bitter edge in comparison to the Bienvenue.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93-96
Interestingly, this is riper than the Bienvenues yet less expressive with a pretty mélange of very fresh orchard fruit and acacia blossom aromas that introduce broad-shouldered flavors of serious power and weight that are carrying ample levels of dry extract that really coat the palate on the explosive and hugely long finish. This can¿t match the BBM for sheer elegance but there is more material here and more overall completeness too.

Pale yellow. Sexy aromas of stone fruits, truffle, earth and vanilla. A step up in richness and fat from the premier crus, with lovely ripe acids framing the peach and orange flavors. This is silky, suave and full without being heavy, but it comes across as a bit severe today, conveying an impression of brooding power. Finishes quite dry and persistent.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 93-95
Aromatically this is quite similar to the Pucelles with its lovely blend of honeysuckle and exotic fruit hints save for a bit more depth that is found here followed by rich, pure, energetic and almost painfully intense flavors that explode on the wonderfully long and punchy finish that is pure class. This is the best example of the Leflaive BBM that I can remember in a long time.

Pale yellow. Subtly complex nose offers peach, flowers, spices, truffle and vanillin oak. Suave, stylish and silky, with subtle fruit and floral elements and perfectly integrated acidity. Harmonious and not a bit heavy. This builds slowly toward the back, finishing subtle and long. Left behind rather Meursault-like aromas of truffle and hazelnut in the empty glass. The estate-wide yield was about 48 hectoliters per hectare in 2005, according to Morey, but more like 44 here. This was the first '05 to finish its malolactic fermentation and is showing very well today.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-93
This is a bit more aromatically complex if not finer or more elegant, featuring white flower and hints of the exotic that can also be found on the rich and powerful medium-bodied plus flavors blessed with plenty of dry extract where the moderately austere finish spreads out like a fan. As noted above, I normally prefer the Combettes to the Pucelles but in '05, it just doesn't have the intensity and vibrancy of the latter though I quite like this as well. If you can find them, buy both as you won't regret either purchase.

A powerful white, this exhibits nut, lemon cream and mineral flavors, shaded by spice. Intense and concentrated, with a tangy finish and a long aftertaste of butterscotch and mineral.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 91-94
The majority of wines in the range have been expressive and open yet this is tight and backward to the point of reticence yet it is still beautifully elegant with green apple and acacia blossom aromas that merge seamlessly into stunningly rich, full and powerful flavors that possess real drive and punch on the penetrating finish that is chiseled and almost painfully intense. We'll see the final result once it's in bottle but this would appear to have terrific potential, indeed this and the Montrachet may be the class of the group.

This is much more reserved and brooding while only grudgingly giving up pure white flower and spice aromas though the serious, rich, full and strikingly powerful flavors possess excellent depth of dry extract and huge length on the detailed, focused, palate staining and explosive finish. This is an impressive Bâtard as everything necessary is here and this should age extremely well.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90
Expressive, slightly exotic nose combines peach, apricot, pineapple and sweet oak scents. A fat, sweet fruit bomb with apricot, nutmeg and buttery pastry flavors. Comes across as less minerally and gripping than the Corton-Charlemagne or Meursault Perrieres; in fact, this strikes me as more chardonnay than Batard. But really coats the mouth on the back end.
Robert Parker 91
'From purchased juice, the Drouhin 2006 Batard-Montrachet smells decadently rich with musk, over-ripe peach, lime candy, talcum, and smoky, spicy new wood. With impressive fat and palate persistence, it offers another instance of appealingly forward virtues if without noticeable indications of long aging potential, nor any particular grand cru finesse or mystery." An ever-so-slightly riper and marginally more elegant nose that is really quite similar to that of the straight Chassagne villages is followed by big, rich and tautly muscled medium-bodied flavors brimming with dry extract and that possess excellent intensity on the citrusy finish. While this is a villages level wine in name only, it delivers very solid quality.

Exotic aromas of mirabelle and pineapple. Then surprisingly dry and penetrating in the mouth, with lovely grip and purity to the flavors of spices and white pepper. Very persistent on the back end.

Drouhin has the exclusivity on the Marquis de Laguiche domaine, which is producing great white wine. Here, minerality and citrus acidity are layered over beautifully judged wood. The wine is rich but crisp, white berries mingling with pears and a delicious finishing spice.

Brisk pineapple and mineral aromas. Juicy and penetrating, with the vineyard's stony, minerally quality standing in for lower-than-average acidity. The pineapple and musky spice flavors are very rich but classically dry. Finishes with a flavor of crushed rocks.
Allen Meadows, Burghound 92
Not surprisingly, this is the most elegant wine to this point, in fact it's the most elegant wine in the entire range with its discreetly oaked nose that sets off the green apple, wet stone and white flower aromas as well as the lemon peel suffused flavors that are impressively delineated, even chiseled on the vibrant and tension filled finish that seems to go on and on. This is really pretty and already completely harmonious.
Robert Parker 91
"From a vineyard farmed by the Drouhin family even though they do not own it, their 2006 Meursault Perrieres is dominated by lemon and grapefruit with sheer crushed stone. (With this site anyone trying to keep the notions of terroir influence and mineral vocabulary separate is sorely challenged ..and not just by the name of the vineyard!) With its firmness, overt stoniness, and penetrating finish, this could be Corton Charlemagne. Notes of toasted nuts add low-tones to the tonal register, and this finishes with impressive depth and peristence. It is certainly more impressively concentrated than it is charming, but it should be worth following for at least 6-8 years, and apt to improve." 91 pts. David Schildknecht

"Representing 9 barrels, all from purchased fruit grown on the Chassagne side of the cru, Jadot's 2006 Montrachet smells decadently of heliotrope, fading lilies, over-ripe peach, and grilled pineapple; comes to the palate predictably full and rich yet surprisingly fresh and invigorating; and lays down a plush, faintly warm, rich but not especially fine-grained carpet of flavor in the finish. While less dramatic than the Batard or mysterious than the Chevalier, this is nonetheless truly grand, and surely capable of at least a decade's fascinating evolution." David Schildknecht
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92+
Full yellow. Stone fruit and pineapple aromas are almost exotic following the Chevalier. Like a fruit cocktail in the mouth, with a liqueur-like suggestion, hints of dried fruits and a strong clove spiciness. Broad and rich but uncompromisingly dry on the powerful, slightly aggressive finish. This could hardly be more different from the Chevalier, but then Jadot did not ferment this wine and it completed its malolactic fermentation. "And Montrachet from the Chassagne side is less fine than wine made from vines in Puligny," noted Lardiere.

Quite surprisingly, this is aromatically more elegant, at least at present with green apple, citrus blossom and subtle wood influence that is picked up by the big, rich, powerful and driving flavors that are actually no more concentrated but there is better depth, more minerality and a bit more length. Impressive.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92
Subtly complex nose combines peach, apple, pear, minerals, hazelnut and smoke. Explosively fruity in the mouth, with firm acidity and brisk citrus flavors giving the mid-palate terrific focus and lift. As rich as this is, it conveys a lovely light touch. Finishes firmly structured, vibrant and very long. A very good year for this style.
Wine & Spirits 94
This starts seemingly simple, an elegant chardonnay with tart apple flavors and mild richness. As the wine takes on air, the texture grows increasingly silken while complexities emerge in bosky, fresh pear skin and subtle earth flavor. There's nothing obvious about it, except it has a long evolution in bottle ahead.
Wine Spectator 95
Solid and compact right now, this is a powerful, concentrated white, showing a chalk flavor under the butter and apricot. Gathers spead across the palate, building to a long finish. Needs time to integrate and realzie its full potential.
