Aromas of black raspberry, mocha, tar, brown spices, menthol and black licorice; rather claret-like. Dense and thick on entry, then extremely primary and closed in the middle, but already showing lovely spicy lift and inner-mouth perfume. An infant of a zinfandel, with the strong acidity and substantial ripe tannins to ensure a slow evolution in bottle. This will grow spicier over the years. The grenache in this vineyard was thoroughly ripe in 2003, and comprises an unusually high 5% of the blend. | |||||
