1997 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre Veronese IGT (750ml) |
$73.00
|
||||
| Wine Spectator 92 | |||||
| "This Veneto red is glorious and rich, yet sophisticated. Dark ruby color, it emits aromas of raisins and berries, and hints of cocoa and spice. It's full-bodied, with chewy yet velvety tannins and a long, long finish." | |||||
| Robert Parker 90 | |||||
| "An outstanding effort is the 1997 Palazzo della Torre. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine is full-bodied, dense, with Rhone-like beef blood and garrigue (that blend of earth and dried Provencal herbs) scents intertwined with copious quantities of black cherry and currant fruit. Rich, chewy, and impressive, it was aged in large 2,000 and 8,000 liter Slavonian wood foudres. Drink it over the next decade." | |||||
1998 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno (750ml) |
$87.00
|
||||
| Wine Spectator 90 | |||||
| Dark ruby in color, with aromas of currants, berries and tar. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, berry, vanilla aftertaste. Needs time to come together. Another gorgeous red from Montevetrano, though not as great as the '97. Best after 2002. | |||||
| Robert Parker 92 | |||||
| I have been extolling the virtues of this wine, produced in partnership with the owner Silvia Imparato and consulting oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, for nearly a decade. I love its individualistic style. Each year, regardless of vintage conditions, it offers up compelling amounts of blueberry, blackberry, and black raspberry fruit presented in a distinctive, medium to full-bodied, fruit-driven, complex personality. It also exhibits a touch of minerals, marvelous purity and symmetry, as well as the potential for 10-20 years of evolution. The 1998 is an outstanding success, with elegance allied to power and intensity. Montevetrano's hallmark blackberry and black raspberry component is present as well as beautiful purity/symmetry, and a long, medium to full-bodied, highly-concentrated finish. Sadly, production is a mere 2,000 bottles from a 4-acre vineyard planted in 1991 with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Aglianico. Like most of the wines made under the supervision of Riccardo Cotarella, it is aged in new French oak, and bottled with neither fining nor filtration. The 1998 should drink well for 10-15 years. | |||||
1999 Lamborghini Campoleone (750ml) |
$158.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 96 | |||||
| "The compelling 1999 Campoleone was aged in 100% new French oak and bottled without fining or filitration by oenologist Riccardo Cotarella. A dense opaque purple color is accompanied by scents of new saddle leather, blackberry and cassis fruit, licorice, roasted meats, and graphite. Full-bodied and sweet, with a fabulous texture, ripe tannin, adequate acidity, and brilliant definition, this is a tour de force in wine making." | |||||
2000 Falesco Montiano (750ml) |
$77.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 94 | |||||
| Falesco's top offering is a 100% barrique-aged Merlot, the 2000 Montiano. While it may not equal the quality of the 1999 or 1997, it comes close. The 2000 boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a sumptuous perfume of graphite, blackberries, currants, licorice, and subtle pain grille notes. With great depth, full body, sweet tannin, and a long, layered, elegant finish, it should drink well between 2005-2020. Bravo! | |||||
2000 Lamborghini Campoleone (750ml) |
$136.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 95 | |||||
| One of the most spectacular wines made in Italy, this unfined/unfiltered, Merlot/Sangiovese blend (about 3,400 cases produced) boasts an extraordinary perfume of saddle leather, smoke, cassis, prunes, and plums. Rich, full-bodied, and voluptuously-textured, with layers of concentrated fruit, a magnificent seamlessness, and a huge, explosive finish, it should drink well for 10-15 years. It is a wine of great stature as well as intensity. | |||||

2001 Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico (750ml) |
$125.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 98 | |||||
| The 2001 Serpico, impenetrable and inky, staggeringly rich in both aroma and flavor, offers ultra-ripe but perfectly fresh berry fruit, cloves, cinnamon, and chocolate, and mouth-coating, deep-pile tactile sensations which combine iron power and a enveloping, voluptuous texture, infinitely deep and long. I would be amazed if this wine did not last thirty years. | |||||
| Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 94 | |||||
| Deep inky ruby. Wonderfully ripe red and black fruit aromas with overtones of dark coffee, licorice, milk chocolate and charcoal. Offers a rich, luscious mouth feel and superb resonating length. This may not be a paradigm of restraint, but who could argue with hedonism in its purist form? | |||||
| Wine Spectator 98 | |||||
| Bold and structured red. Dark color; black licorice, raspberry and mineral character and hints of dried flowers; full-bodied, with spicy fruit and undertones of black pepper. Chewy finish. This is fantastic. Best after 2007. | |||||

2004 Lamborghini Campoleone (750ml) |
$78.00
|
||||
| Gambero Rosso 3 Glasses | |||||
| Lamborghini's Campoleone, a sangiovese-merlot blend from the Trasimeno hills, is a wine of pedigree which, like all thoroughbreds, can perform erratically, There's genius on the one hand and decadence on the other. When the year is right, the wine has few equals and goes beyond being impressive to take you by storm, and sometimes even knock you sideways. ..the '04 Campoleone is a deep ruby colour. The nose has extreme complexity and refinement, with small red and black berry fruit, nuances of new oak and swaths of balsam, all of which continually alternative and intermingle, to glorious effect. The palate is full of flesh, showing vibrant and deeply fruity, with a superb tannic weave. It has a clear stamp of Bordeaux about it. | |||||
| Robert Parker 92 | |||||
| The 2004 Campoleone, the estate's signature wine, is simply gorgeous. This blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot spent 12 months in French oak. It is a firmly structured wine with superb density on the palate, where layers of tobacco, dark cherries, earthiness, smoke, licorice and toasted oak all come to life. The tannins finish slightly dry and astringent, likely a result of an overly exuberant use of French oak. Still, this is a beautifully delineated, focused Campoleone. Antonio Galloni | |||||
