$45.00
FineWine International
Anyone who thinks California Pinots can't age should taste this wine. At 14 years of age this Santa Maria Pinot is still vibrant with no hint of fading fruit. The tannins are beautilfully supple and the aromatics complex in the nose. Really outstanding.

1994 Ridge Paso Robles California (750ml)

$35.00
FineWine International
Classic Ridge style Zinfandel, showing ripe black plum and berry fruit, full body and long complex finish.

1994 Roc de Cambes (750ml)

$45.00
Robert Parker 86
Less impressive in the bottle than cask tastings suggested, this wine displays a soft ruby color, a soft, spicy, earthy, truffle-like nose, tasty, round, ripe, medium-bodied flavors, and an easy-going finish. It tastes noticeably less fat and concentrated since bottling.

1995 David Bruce Chalone California (750ml)

$30.00
FineWine International

1995 Laurent Beaune Auxey-Duresses Cuvee Boillot (750ml)

$45.00
FineWine International
"Auxey-Duresses is the most underrated commune of the Cote d'Or. Here is a great example of these characterful wines, exhibiting black cherry fruit, very good depth, and a spicy robust finish...A great value."

1995 Laurent Nuits-St- Georges Cuvee Tradition (750ml)

$45.00
Matt Kramer
"A good Nuits-Saints-Georges, even a commune-level bottling should be a rugged wine when young: tannic, robust, richly concentrated, and unbending. They are wines of structure and scale, built for aging and rewarding those who wait with an earthiness different from any other."

1995 Long Vineyards Special Selection California (750ml)

$30.00
FineWine International
"Classic ripe, spicy, complex and well balanced Chardonnay."

1995 Ridge Paso Robles California (750ml)

$35.00
Robert Parker 89
It is a deep, ripe, full-bodied wine with copious quantities of fruit, low acidity, moderate tannin, and a fleshy, nicely-textured mouthfeel. It should drink well for 7-8 years.

1995 Suremain Chateau de Monthelie (750ml)

$25.00
Matt Kramer
"Sandwiched between Volnay, Meursault, and Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie is one of the least-known (and seen) appellations of the Cote de Beaune. What you can expect from Monthelie is a wine of depth and flavor that is slightly coarse or rustic. It's a sturdy wine."
Wine- Maker Notes
Four miles south of Beaune sits the pretty village of Monthélie and the splendid Château de Monthélie which Eric de Suremain inherited from his grandfather in 1983. Medium bodied with lovely purity of fruit and a tingly alive character!

1995 The Terraces California (750ml)

$42.00
Wine Spectator 92
Smooth and creamy even with its core of firm tannins.

1996 Anderson's Conn Valley Reserve California (750ml)

$65.00
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 89
Medium red. Aroma of roasted plum, minerals, hot rocks and tobacco. Lush, sweet and minerally, with medium body, smooth texture, and very good depth of flavor. Harmonious acids and ripe tannins give this persistent wine early appeal.
Wine Spectator 90
Ripe, round and polished, with an attractive core of currant- and coffee-laced black cherry, cedar, oak and spice notes. Finishes with firm, tight, earthy tannins. Needs a little time. Best from 2000 through 2009.

1996 Behrens & Hitchcock Ode to Picasso California (750ml)

$42.00
Robert Parker 87
"...This dark ruby/purple-colored wine (named after a recently deceased cat) is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Viognier. The wine's bouquet is dominated by the Viognier. In fact, that component is not yet integrated into the wine's overall personality, which kept my score lower than it may eventually become. The honeysuckle, apricot, blackberry, and currant-scented nose is followed by a wine with good ripeness, a round, gentle, graceful entry, sweet ripe fruit, and a spicy, moderately long finish. Even in the flavor profile, the Viognier appears to have the upper hand, dominating the varietal characteristics of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Although very good, the question is, will it become better, and will the Viognier become more meshed in the wine's overall composition? In any event, this wine should drink well for 7-8 years.
FineWine International
Comprised of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Viognier, this ripe and generous wine shows sweet, spicy black fruit, ending with a long lush finish.

1996 Dujac-Druid Meursault les Clous (750ml)

$45.00

1996 Dujac-Druid Puligny Montrachet (750ml)

$45.00
FineWine International
"Spicy, full bodied with vanilla highlights, mark this silky, complex and lush Chardonnay made by the famous Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac."

1996 Etude California (750ml)

$45.00
Wine Spectator 92
Aromatically complex, with an intense array of spicy black cherry, earth, cedar, tar and oak, showing depth and richness.

1996 Fonsalette (Rayas) Blanc (750ml)

$30.00
FineWine International
Note for everyone but this is one of the most interesting whites you will taste. Complex herbal aromas and muted fruit flavors on a bone dry palate make this a perfect wine choice with any grilled seafood you choose to pair it with.
Wine Spectator
This full-bodied yet crisp white shows alluring pear and honey aromas, with ripe flavors of pear and melon and a vivid streak of citrusy acidity. It has the weight and definition to match well with richer dishes.

1996 Jadot Santenay Clos de Malte (750ml)

$48.50
Robert Parker 88
The Santenay Clos De Malte is medium-to-dark ruby-colored and offers aromas reminiscent of roses, violets, stones, and cherries. This silky-textured, structured, and medium-bodied offering is richer and more full-flavored than I remember the 1995 being at the same stage. Blackberries, stones, and minerals are found in this firm and delicious wine. It should be drunk between 1999 and 2002. The score, on a range and in parentheses, indicates that the wine was tasted from barrel. "I am in love with this vintage's purity and its touch of tension," said Pierre-Henri Gagey, Maison Louis Jadot's director. Jacques Lardiere, this negociant house's talented winemaker, shares Gagey's enthusiasm for the 1996s, feeling they beautifully reflect their respective terroirs. Lardiere bled (a technique of removing the watery juice of a light pressing to increase concentration) many of the 1996s, "but never more than 10%," and performed a 28 to 35 day cuvaison in order to extract a maximum amount of flavor, color, and aromas while softening the tannins. These wines will neither be fined nor filtered prior to bottling.

Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 87-90
"Good bright red-ruby color. Brooding currant and dark berry aromas, with hints of licorice, roasted game and fresh blood. Sweet, broad and rather urgently fruity, but still holding a lot of gas. Very Nuits in its firmness. Finishes with slightly tough tannins. Needs an aeration."

1996 Laurent Nuits-St-Georges Les Agillieres (750ml)

$45.00
Clive Coates 17.00
"Fullish colour. Slightly tough on the nose. Tight and concentated. On the palate richer and more generous...Full and tannic. Needs time. Very good indeed."

1996 McCray Ridge California (750ml)

$45.00
Wine Spectator
Combines ripe, spicy cherry and wild berry flavors with supple, polished tannins and a sense of understated elegance and grace. Delicious enough to drink now or cellar through 2002.

1996 McCrea Winery Washington (750ml)

$30.00

"Excellent Washington State winery located near Puget Sound, producing highly regarded wines. Columbia Valley grown and barrel fermented, complex and well balanced."

1996 McKinlay Special Selection Oregon (750ml)

A small producer, 300-400 cases, making very Burgundian style Pinot.

1996 Michelot Meursault Charmes (750ml)

$40.00
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Vintage Assessment: "A second look at the '96s. As I wrote a year ago, 1996 offers a rare combination of healthy sugars, high acids, and perfectly clean fruit. Some representative comments on the '96 whites I heard this spring include: "Unusually minerally," "A true Burgundy classic," "Perfectly reflective of our unique terroirs," "A great vintage, but austere today." The best '96s have extraordinary aromatic purity and great thrust and grip. These are classic white Burgundies: true to their soils, slow to reveal their personalities, and perfectly balanced for long and graceful evolution in bottle. But due to the high crop yields of this vintage, there are also many wines that come across as a bit skinny. And even those with enough flesh to balance their bracing acids over the longer term can be awkward to drink today, if not downright severe. Wines that finished with particularly low levels of residual sugar may be especially hard to taste over the next couple of years. Patrick Javillier, who considers 1996 an outstanding but not a perfect vintage, pointed out that the SO2 had a tendency to combine very slowly with the '96s, and this may have something to do with why so many wines are not especially expressive early on."
FineWine International
"Domaine Michelot has been on a major rebound since 1993 when Jean-Francois Meste became the winemaker. Now considered one of the finest white Burgundy producers with concentrated, complex, fleshy wines. 'Les Charmes' is often the most voluptuous of the Meursault 1er cru, and this is a classic example of that style."

Domaine Michelot has been on a major rebound since 1993 when Jean-Francois Meste became the winemaker and now considered one of the finest white Burgundy producers. The 1er cru of 'Les Genevrieres' produces wines in the rich yet refined style, and this is a classic example.

Anthony Hanson
"Montagny is a name which applies only to white wines, from the Chardonnay grape. It seems set to become an increasingly good source of economically priced white Burgundy."
FineWine International
"Fine Chardonnay from the Cote Chalonnaise in central Burgundy, Montagny is often underrated and consequently is an excellent value for white Burgundy. The wines tend to be somewhat full in style, leaning toward those of the Cote de Beaune."

1997 Bongran Macon Clesse (750ml)

$40.00
Robert Parker 93
The Domaine de la Bongran's 1997 Macon-Clesse Quintaine is a stunner. Its fresh and pure aromatics are composed of ripe apples, honeysuckle blossoms, and touches of spicy anise. This massively intense wine is medium-to-full-bodied, is hugely ripe, and possesses a sweet minerally backbone to its layered chalk and spiced pear flavor profile. Its personality has an awe inspiring precision of flavors, enormous complexity, a mouth-watering oily texture, and an unbelievably long finish. This is an amazing Macon, one that should set a benchmark for others to emulate for decades to come.

1997 Dr Loosen Erdener Pralat Auslese GK (375ml)

$40.00
Wine Spectator 90
"Very ripe, this has an extra component of sweetness, with vibrant acidity to match. Light and mercurial, showing lime and apricot flavors?."

1997 Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese (375ml)

$40.00
Wine Spectator 91
"Lip-smacking and smelling of freshly baked bread, lime and mineral, this white combines rich peach and apple flavors with a racy structure and an intensity that continues on the fine, fresh aftertaste."

1997 Jaboulet, Cornas (750ml)

$45.00
Robert Parker 90
"The 1997 Cornas reveals a dense black/ruby/purple color, as well as sweet, ripe fruit with an element of sur-maturite. The tell-tale cassis, licorice, mineral, animal, and meaty aromas are present, but the wine possesses a velvety texture, concentrated fruit, and a long, powerful, rich finish. It should drink well for 15 years."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 89-90
"Spicier, riper aromas of black fruits, smoked meat, pepper, leather and exotic spices. Thick and rich but with enough harmonious acidity for balance?.Rather stylish for a big boy, and long on personality."
John-Livingstone Learnmonth 4 *
Dark Plum; ripe grape smell, porty. Ripe, rotting elements. Minty, earthy, good plush, tasty wine. Fat, ripe flavours, juicy texture. Not many hidden corners, not typical Cornas. 2012-16.

1997 Laurent Nuit St. Georges Roncieres (750ml)

1997 Paoletti California (750ml)

$24.00
Wine Spectator 88
"Quite massive butterscotch, coconut, bacon and apricot flavors. Highly oak-influenced and atypical of the varietal and region. Tasty, fun and exotic."

1997 Rion Nuits St Georges Les Vignes Rondes (750ml)

$45.00
Robert Parker 90
"The medium to dark purple/ruby-colored 1997 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos des Argillieres reveals fresh red and black cherry, candied raspberry, and vanilla aromas. It possesses a jellied texture, a medium to full body, and opulent layers of fat, dense fruit. This sweet, luxurious, and hedonistic wine will be at its best if drunk over the next 6-7 years."

1997 Rossignol Gevrey-Chambertin (750ml)

$15.00
Wine Spectator
"Animal elements combine with plum, licorice and a hint of coffee in this broad-shouldered, firm '97 red. A bit diffused now, but there's good balance and concentration, followed by modest length. Best from 2000 through 2004. 225 cases imported."
FineWine International
"From perfectly located vineyards between Brochon and Gevrey, Rossignol has produced a classic, concentrated, complex and well balanced Pinot Noir, with hints of coffee, plum and licorice in the firm, medium-long finish"

1997 Trapet Gevrey Chambertin Petit Chapelle (750ml)

$45.00
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 87-90

Robert Parker 89
The 1998 Chardonnay Estate is an unfiltered cuvee of 3,000 cases. It possesses a Chablis-like character, exhibiting steely mineral notes intermixed with citrus and lemon/lime-like characteristics. While powerful, the alcohol is well-concealed beneath the pure fruit. Readers looking for less obvious new oak in their Chardonnays should give this wine a try. It should drink well for several years.
