| Deep purple color to the edge. Aromas of black fruit and tobacco. Tannins are present but not harsh. The next day: Deep sweet core of blackberry fruit on the nose. Powerfully honed, rich, cassis sorbet and red fruit middle with fine length. Excellent vibrancy on the finish. Still coming on 20 hours after opening. A truly special mountain Cabernet. Be patient. | |||||

| "Deep purple color. Ripe aromas of dark purple fruit and black cherry with wonderful high tones. Ripe, juicy and brooding, with a gorgeous core of black cherry and blackberry fruit. | Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| Our 2004 Chardonnay speaks of the soil. These soils have a high clay content with pockets of decomposing sandstone. The wine shows a strong mineral backbone with aromas of wet stones and limestone. The fruit is driven by citrus with flavors of meyer lemon sorbet. In the background there is a barrel flavor of toasted hazelnuts. As the wine opens there is the promise of tart apricot. The strong core, long finish and slight reduction imply that the wine will age gracefully. | |||||

$15.00
|
||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| "The Bridge Pa Vineyard Hawke?s Bay Syrah 2005 is deep ruby in colour with violet and black fruit aromas. The attack is soft and sweet with notes of blackberry, black pepper and vanilla spice on the mid palate followed by a long, lingering finish with hints of licorice. This is a complex, elegantly structured wine which may be enjoyed on release or will reward further cellaring. A Classic Syrah from Hawke?s Bay this wine is made from high quality, hand picked fruit grown on the Ngatarawa Road vineyard. Hand crafted by Bruce Helliwell, traditional gentle winemaking techniques were employed followed by maturation for nine months in both new and seasoned French and American oak barriques. The wine was then bottle aged for a further four months prior to release at an optimal stage for drinking or cellaring." | |||||

2005 Drouhin Cotes de Beaune (750ml) |
$33.00
|
||||
| Wine Spectator 88 | |||||
| "Plump and juicy, with spicy cherry and raspberry flavors. It has mouthwatering acidity and an elegant frame. A good introduction to the region and the vintage." | |||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| Vineyard Site: on the hill overlooking the city of Beaune. This appellation should not be confused with Côte de Beaune-Villages (a blend of various villages from the Côte de Beaune). Tasting note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin "A true delight and a great harmony! A beautiful purple colour. On the nose, delicate and fruity aromas such as strawberry and red currant. On the palate, the tannins are refined and lend a nice roundness to the body. Elegant aftertaste". Vintage Pure delight in all the appellations. The colour is ruby red, very intense. The aromas are well marked and classic notes of little red berries dominate. All the reds have a consistent structure, based on good balance between acidity, alcohol and tannin. It is this balance that gives the wines such elegance. The tannins are ripe and refined. They harmonize nicely with a refreshing acidity devoid of astringency. The exquisite fruit found in the range of lesser villages in Burgundy is charming the wine lovers everywhere. The Premier and Grand Crus have been somewhat closed these last few months. Their structure tends to dominate the bouquet and aromas. It would be unfortunate to drink these wines now. The aging potential of the Grand Crus is certainly several decades, although it will be possible to enjoy them earlier. | |||||

| Robert Parker 90 | |||||
| "A sleeper of the vintage as well as the finest wine I have yet tasted from this estate, Lalande-Borie is made by Ducru Beaucaillou?s proprietor, Bruno Borie. He has turned out a graceful, charming, seductive St.-Julien possessing a dense purple color and sweet cassis fruit intermixed with forest floor, spice box, and earth characteristics. This is a beauty to drink over the next decade." | |||||

2005 Murphy Vineyards Sierra Foothills California (750ml) |
$19.00
|
||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| Like the 2004, this Syrah starts with a smoky nose of grilled fruits and ends with flavors of black cherries and allspice. Made in the lighter style with brisk acidity and mouth-watering tannins, this Syrah pairs beautifully with pork dishes. The floral aromas of this wine are similar to the 2004 Syrah. Medium bodied with full flavors, but not overpowering making a long smooth finish. | |||||
2005 Red Lava, Red Hills Estate California (750ml) |
$21.00
|
||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| Red Lava Vineyards, owned by Bud and Kristi Lawson, is located at 1600ft elevation and is planted with an 8 acre Syrah vineyard on a 16% slope in the Red Hills Lake County appellation. It is densely planted with a syrah clone from the Rhone Valley of Southern France. Vine yield is limited to encourage production of dark, concentrated berries. The canopy is hand-groomed to allow the fruit to mature and ripen evenly. The Red Hills vineyard produces a Syrah that is highly extracted with concentrated color, depth and complexity. The color is crimson-black with aromas of creme de cassis, blackberry, blackraspberry, mocha and minerals. On the palate, the wine is well balanced with flavors of mixed berry fruit, black pepper, rich tannins and a long supple finish. | |||||

| Rich, ripe and full of fruit, with aromatics of provencial herbs mixed with flavors or raspberries and strawberries. Good acidity and a long finish make this one of the best Roses this side of Tavel. | |||||
| Robert Parker 89 | |||||
| One of my favorite California roses is Tablas Creek's. Their powerful, light ruby-hued 2005 Rose (an 800-case blend of 62% Mourvedre, 28% Grenache, and 10% Counoise) possesses good underlying acidity along with plenty of blue and red fruit aromas as well as flavors. | |||||
2005 Vall Llach Embruix, Priorat (750ml) |
$40.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 91 | |||||
| "The 2005 Embruix (?bewitched? in Catalan), sourced from the estate?s younger vines, is a blend of 38% Garnacha, 26% Carinena, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, and 6% Merlot. Fifty percent of the wine was barrel fermented and all of it was aged for 16 months in seasoned French oak. Crimson-colored, the wine has an attractive nose of cedar, tobacco, pencil lead, black cherry, and blackberry. Full-bodied, plush, forward, and nearly seamless, it has lots of spicy dark fruits, silky tannin, excellent depth, and a pure finish. Drink this pleasurable wine over the next 6-8 years." | |||||
| Wine Enthusiast 92 | |||||
| "Vall Llach Embruix may be the winery?s base-level offering but it?s no starter wine. Five grapes led by Garnacha are blended to achieve a potent and piercing brew of blueberry aromas, black cherry and cassis flavors, and a rich, chocolaty finish. Modern in style, and making no apologies for it. Equal in quality to the excellent 2004 Embruix." | |||||
2005 Vavasour, Marlborough (750ml) |
$39.00
|
||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| The Vavasour Pinot Noir is a deep garnet colour and shows intense black plum and spice on the nose. The concentrated palate exhibits rich cherry flavours with a long, soft tannin finish. This wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 3 to 4 years. | |||||
2006 Cadaretta, Columbia Valley Washington (750ml) |
$35.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 92 | |||||
| "The 2006 Syrah was sourced from three premier vineyards. Purple-colored, it offers aromas of spice box, cedar, smoke, and blueberry. The wine has a velvety texture, fine depth, and is already showing some complexity. The Middleton family owns this Walla Walla start-up with plans to plant an estate vineyard in 2008. Their winemaker is Virginie Bourgue, a youthful French ex-pat. Inadvertently playing straight man, I asked her if she missed French cuisine (it?s tough to find in Walla Walla). She said, "No, I cook." | |||||
| Wine Enthusiast 90 | |||||
| "Cadaretta, with serious money and an established winemaker (Virginie Bourgue) at the helm, is going to be a player in Walla Walla. The first release is this excellent Syrah, sourced from Pepper Bridge, Stonetree and Alder Ridge. The immediate impression is that the nose has got a lot of floral attributes, followed with hints of spice. The fruit is dark and the tannins show some green edges. The wine has good grip, and some tarry notes in the finish. In the glass more of the toasted new oak flavors emerge, a very pretty framework for a rather substantial wine." | |||||
2006 Chateau Paradis Coteaux d'Aix (750ml) |
$29.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 89 | |||||
| Another project of Michel Tardieu and Philippe Cambie, the 2006 Coteaux d'Aix is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, and Syrah. A well-made bistro-styled red with very deep color, loads of fruit, pepper, earth, licorice, and spice, the wine is medium-bodied, pure, and best drunk over the next 4-5 years. | |||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Grenache (35%) and Syrah (10%). Average age of vines is 20 years. Grapes are picked by hand and sorted out in small cases.They are de-stemmed, crushed and tipped into uncoated concrete tanks. After 3 to 4 days of cold maceration to extract fruit aromas, the fermentation starts naturally using indigenous yeast and last for 10 days During this period we alternate délestage with punch down to extract maximum grape potential. Once the wine finishes fermenting, the maceration process continues for approximately 10 more days. The wine is then aged for 12 month, 30% in oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation starts, 70% in uncoated concrete tank. Tasting notes The robe is garnet with purple refletion. Nose: Fresh and intense on red fruit aromas with spicy notes. Mouth: Fluid, well balanced between roundness and tanins. | |||||

| The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault, aged in tank (20%) and old wood foudres (80%), reveals classic Provencal typicity with its notes of sweet black cherries, lavender, licorice, roasted herbs, and meat. Soft and lush with a luxurious mouthfeel as well as a stunningly silky texture, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years | |||||
| Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92 | |||||
| Dark red. Very precise aromas of strawberry and cherry, with a suave mineral underpinning and a whiff of fresh rose adding complexity. Very Burgundian in its relatively light body, silky texture and graceful red fruit flavors. Picks up an exotic cinnamon quality on the long, sappy finish. This offers fabulous potential for an entry-level wine. | |||||

2007 Royal Tokaji Furmint (750ml)
List Price:

||||
| Wine Spectator | |||||
| Straw, melon and spice notes mingle with the rich texture and moderate structure. There's a hint of oak, and this picks up a light bitterness on the finish. | |||||
| Wine Enthusiast 87 | |||||
| This lively, dry white from Hungary starts with aromas of apple, oaky spice and citrus, leading in to balanced fruit flavors with a toasty vanilla edge. Smooth but spunky, the wine ends with a good spicy finish. | |||||
| Robert Parker 87 | |||||
| It is not surprising that when they turned their attention to dry wine, their 2006 Furmint would be worthy of wine lovers? attention. Pineapple, lime zest, musky flowers, and wood smoke scent the nose. On the palate, this displays the phenolic cut and refreshing citricity as well as the subtly bitter oiliness common to virtually all Furmint. But there is a satisfying sheer juiciness here that allows the bitter-sweet nutty and zesty side of the variety to add complexity rather than dominate the proceedings. Enjoy this distinctive and intensely-flavored wine over the coming year, particularly in strongly herbal, citric, or charred and grilled food contexts. Royal Tokaji was also long reluctant to bottle nobly sweet wine of less than Tokaji Aszu concentration, even as many of their neighbors were leaning heavily on such ?late-harvest? (but not official Aszu) cuvees. | |||||
2007 Saint Cosme Gigondas (750ml) |
$47.00
|
||||
| Robert Parker 93 | |||||

Full-bodied with terrific fruit intensity, a layered texture, gorgeous freshness, and acids that provide a well-defined personality to this blockbuster Gigondas. Despite its size, substance, and depth, the overall impression is one of sublime elegance and purity. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years. | |||||

| Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90 | |||||
| a blend based on 60% malbec) Medium ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry and fruitcake, with a medicinal note of licorice. Dense and suave on entry, then concentrated and firm in the middle, even a bit youthfully bound-up, with sound acidity framing the black fruit flavors. Less pliant today than the winery's two 2009 bottlings, finishing with strong black fruit flavors, substantial tannins and excellent grip. This needs at least a couple years of bottle aging. | |||||
2008 Donnhoff Norheimer Kirscheck Riesling Spatlese (750ml)
List Price:
|
$42.30
|
||||
| Terry Thiese | |||||
| In this humble taster's opinion, these are the greatest Rieslings on earth. No other wine, anywhere, exceeds the clarity, polish, complexity and sheer beauty of flavor of this grower's finest wines. Simply, like the most perfect Riesling that can ever be. ...its quite feline, gentle, dear, and calm. Less animated and frisky, but by no means worse! Just more lambent, tranquil. The strawberries are ripe, the basket beckons, the sun has started to warm them. | |||||
| Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90 | |||||
| Pale golden yellow with a hint of green. Subtle honeysuckle aromas blend with hyacinth and lime. Pure, polished peachy fruit with a very refined minerality drift dreamily across the palate. Finishes delicate and quite long. Joel B. Payne | |||||
| Wine Spectator 92 | |||||
| This is pure and translucent, allowing its pear, apple and stone aromas and flavors to sine. Presision balance and fine length complete the profile. | |||||
| Robert Parker 92 | |||||
| Fresh lemon, grapefruit, diverse red berries and buddleia hauntingly scent the Donnhoff 2008 Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spatlese and inform a palate of utmost refinement and delicacy, transparent to salt, stone, gingery spice, and floral diversity. Juicy, tart, faintly bitter suggestions of fresh pineapple add invigoration to a long, refreshing finish. This represents an unusually vivacious, incipiently complex Kirschheck with all of the seductive allure one has come to expect from this bottling. It should be fascinating to follow for 15-20 years, although it-s irresistible young. David Schildknecht | |||||
2008 Freeman, Sonoma Coast California (750ml) |
$42.00
|
||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| "the 2008 Freeman Sonoma Coast is the darkest, most powerful and largest-framed of our lineup of four Pinot Noirs. The nose is dominated by spicy, slow-ripening Pinot Noir aromas, with hints of violets and roses. Though somewhat similar on the palate to our ?08 Russian River Valley bottling, the Sonoma Coast offers higher acidity and firmer tannins." | |||||
2008 Hexamer Schlossbockelheimer In Den Felsen Trocken (750ml)

| Terry Thiese | |||||
| Hexamer is emblematic of the best of cutting edge thinking among quality-minded vintners. He's a vineyardist first, only thereafter a cellarmaster. I can only attempt to optimize in the cellar what I pull from the vineyard; the quality of the grapes is decisive. He often harvests riper grapes from another site (Marbach) but the wines of Rheingrafenberg are more filigree and betterstructured. He handles as little as possible. Doesn't deacidify, doesn't use dosage. The grapes are picked exclusively by hand and fermented very cold (below 12 degrees celsius) with cooling when necessary (but we often pick so late we bring naturally cold fruit below 10 degrees back to the winery.) Yields are controlled by pruning. We often end up with only six to eight bunches per vine. Most of the wines are whole-cluster pressed; The most filigree wines come from this method. 95% of all Rieslings are made in stainless steel, and only racked three to six weeks after fermentation is complete. The wines are bottled early to preserve their vigor Don't be mad if it ends up being Spätlese, because on March 9th when I was there Harald hadn't made up his mind. Nor should he have to be wrenched into our need to know now. The wine itself was unfinished but it was certainly the juiciest and most exotic of the 08 Trocken series. | |||||

| For many tasters, these are the Ne Plus Ultra of Mosel wine, and they have attracted an almost religious following...It is hard to put a finger on exactly what it is that makes these wines so precious. There is a candor about them that is quite disarming. They are polished too, but not brashly so. They are careful to delineate their vineyard characteristics, and they offer fruit of sublime purity. They are utterly soaring in flavor yet not without weight. What many of you seem to have warmed to is their clarity, precision and beauty of fruit, so maybe I'll leave it at that! What a fragrance! It comes with a lemony coolness and broadens into an amazingly flowery mid-palate that broadens even more into a sensationally ripe moonglowpear finish with salty rivulets of terroir; a deliberate yet dramatic crescendo. | |||||
| Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92 | |||||
| "Effusive aroma of black cherries, passion fruit and lemon oil. In the mouth, a hint of nutmeg enlivens flavors of vanilla custard studded with tropical fruits. Boasts a luscious texture, but this excellent spatlese's pure, salty minerality gives it a long and dynamic finish." Joel B. Payne. Note: review is for Number 5 | |||||
| Wine Spectator 90 | |||||

2008 vonOthegraven Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Kabinett (750ml)
List Price:
|
$27.00
|
||||
| FineWine International 100 | |||||
| The most incredible expression of German Riesling we have tasted in over 30 years. This wine has it all: incredible aromatics, a cornucopia of floral and exotic fruit scents, and a galaxy of minerals. On the palate a whisp of sweetness, pinpoint acidity, perfect balance, and a finish that went on forever. In one word: a perfect wine. | |||||
| Terry Thiese | |||||
| "..the Kanzemer Altenberg on ure Devonian slate with rusty flectks from weathered inron oxide, making themost primordially concentrated wines, almost meaty, with such depth as to be almost inscrutable when young, as if they have so much to say they can only stutter. I adore wines like these... Yes, the first time I ever "gave" three plusses to a Kabinett, and that's not the story, it doesn't matter what I orn anyone else "gives" a wine. What matters is the things this does does that no other wine does. But getting to it; it smells good! Complex, serene, with the kind of thick lovely melancholy of Saar wnes; expressive quince and balsam; silvery and clear; the palate, if anything, overtakes the aromas..have I ever tated a better Kabinett? What length, mineral, haunting fruit. A sublime masterpiece. Everything there is to cherish about Riesling shown to us here. | |||||
| Wine & Spirits 92 | |||||
| With its delicate, slate-drenched aromas and quite restraint, this is classic Kabinett, a throwback to the days before global warming and deliverately elevated must-weights. It's crystalline, precise and virtually weightless-those who long for the true Kabinett od will be thrilled with this. | |||||

$17.10
|
||||
| Wine- Maker Notes | |||||
| Made reductively in order to maximize the fruit personality of the vintage, the 2009 shows more marked fruit aromatics than usual, while maintaining the typical Southern Right balance of Old World minerality and length with hints of New World palate coverage and body. 2009 is a wine that favours origin expressive individuality, minerality and palate complexity ahead of pure, pungent varietal aroma. A larger percentage of fruit from clay-rich soil in 2009 has added an intense mid-palate structural component and addition overall complexity to this wine. | |||||
2009 Croix de Beaucaillou (750ml) |
$49.00
|
||||
| Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar | |||||
| "Very deep purple. Fresh cabernet sauvignon-dominated nose shows floral, cassis and graphite aromas. Also vibrant on entry, with ripe, soft black fruit and mineral flavors that resonate through the smooth finish. This very well-made wine shows much more complexity, depth and freshness than usual; while there's a hint of slightly drying tannins, this looks to be the best Croix ever. Owner Bruno Borie told me that beginning in 2005 this became a wine of terroir too: rather than including grapes from Ducru's youngest or less favorably situated vines (fruit that now goes into private labels), the Croix is made only with the grapes of certain specific parcels." | |||||
| Wine Spectator 89-92 | |||||
| "Rose, mineral, currant and berries on the nose. Full-bodied, with firm and chewy tannins and a long finish. Polished and pretty. Could use a little bit more in the center palate, but very good indeed." | |||||
| Robert Parker 91 | |||||
| "The grand vin is the result of an increasingly strict selection process, with approximately 50% of the production going into the final wine and the balance used in the Croix de Beaucaillou. The 2009 may be the finest example of this cuvee I have yet tasted. Up-front, precocious and generous, it possesses a dense purple color, a big, broad, unctuous texture and abundant notes of creme de cassis and black cherry fruit intertwined with hints of wood smoke, vanillin and earth. This nearly viscous-styled wine can be drunk in 2-3 years or cellared for 15+. Bruno Borie has done a remarkable job at Ducru Beaucaillou." | |||||

| Earthy, tapenade, briery fruit, spice box and incense characterize the dark plum-colored 2009 Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard. It is a fragrant, front end-loaded 2009, but it does not reveal the depth of some of the biggest Zins in this portfolio. It should drink well for 2-3 years. | |||||

| Dark and concentrated, with cherry pie and toasty vanilla aromas that lead to balanced, complex flavors of blackberry, mocha and peppered licorice. Drink now through 2018. | |||||

| "The same can be said for the 2009 Zinfandel Rattlesnake Ridge, a high elevation, cooler climate vineyard. Its dark ruby/purple hue is followed by notes of blueberries, blackberries and damp, mossy, forest floor scents. The wine possesses fabulous fruit, admirable ripeness and a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel and plenty of power as well as fruit. Larry Turley and his sidekick, longtime winemaker Ehren Jordan remain the reference point, along with Mike Officer at Carlisle in Sonoma and the Biale Family in Napa, for world-class, quintessential old vine Zinfandels. Sadly, few California Zinfandels reach these heights. 2009 is a softer, lighter-styled vintage for Turley, but the wines are already charming and irresistible. They should be ready to drink when released and best consumed in their first 4-6 years of life." | |||||

| "Powerfully built and appealingly rustic, with wild berry and loamy white pepper aromas. The flavors are concentrated and ripe, but focused, showing smoky plum, anise and toasty sage. The tannins are big but balanced." | |||||

| "Dee-lish! High toned fruit, lychee, plum, ripe quince, all atop a meringue of slate; green aloe-vera notes in the middle; has a kind of manic stillness-the sense of tremendous acitivity inside an apparent repose, the sort of tantric-breaking, deliverate, in-the-moment abosrption. The empty glass smells miraculous. | |||||
2010 Prieure de Montezargues Tavel (750ml) |

| Review:of the 2009 vintage: This dry, full-bodied rose, made from tiny yields of 27 hectoliters per hectare, is a blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and the rest Clairette. The estate is large, nearly 90 acres, owned by the Richard family, who are the proprietors of Chateau La Nerthe. This classic orange/salmon-colored wine offers up an exquisite nose of dried flowers, framboise, strawberry jam, Provencal herbs and spice. Its considerable depth of flavor and full body make this very dry rose the quintessential example of a great Tavel (which is increasingly hard to find). Drink it over the next 1-2 years. | |||||

| (a blend of grenache, grenache blanc, cinsault, syrah, mourvedre, carignan, clairette and bourboulenc): Dark pink. High-pitched aromas of redcurrant and strawberry, with notes of rhubarb and dried flowers adding complexity. Spicy and focused on the palate, offering deep red berry flavors and a note of bitter cherry. The persistent, cherry-accented finish is dry and nervy. I really like this wine's blend of power and vivacity. | |||||

| Grapes for this wine were grown on the rolling slopes of vineyards in the Edna Valley of California. Located halfway between Monterey to the north and Santa Barbara to the south, this tiny valley boasts one of the coolest, and longest, growing seasons in the state. Much like the Ri?as Baixas, the Edna Valley maintains a consistent, temperate climate from vintage to vintage. The extended hang time encourages full ripening and development of intense varietal character, a tangent imperative. My aim with this wine is to keep to the classic style of traditional Albariño from Rías Baixas region of Spain, showcasing its vibrant acidity and fresh aromatics of tangerine and ripe peach. This wine is crisp and refreshing, with tropical notes of banana and grapefruit, along with an indigenous salty characteristic. It is a great accompaniment to just about an shellfish | |||||
