"A once perfect wine, the 1978 Rayas is finally beginning to lose its thick, juicy, succulent personality, and drop some of its hugely concentrated jammy blackraspberry/kirsch/cherry fruit. A dark garnet color with an amber edge, is followed by a still stunning, exotic bouquet consisting of Asian spices, jammy black fruits, garrigue, smoked meats, and pepper. However, in the three separate tastings I noted that the wine is losing its sweetness, and just beginning to reveal acidity and a tannic bitterness in the finish. At its finest, this was a perfect wine that admirably demonstrated the excitement Rayas can produce. Owners should consume it quickly." 94 pts. R. Parker

"..Only a handful of wines (Henri Bonneau's Reserve Celestin, Beaucastel, clos des Papes, and perhaps Vieux-Telegraph) will age gracefully into the first decade of the next century. Owners of 1985s should not defer their gratification any l,onger.

A saturated dark plum/garnet color with amber at the edge is followed by an attractive smoky, underbrush, and truffle-scented wine with coffee, smoke, cedar, and jammy cassis/plum-like fruit. As the wine sits in the glass, notes of Chinese black tea, pepper, and soy emerge. There is surprising tannin and austerity in the finish, but the aromatics and attack were convincingly rich and intense.
Michael Broadbent
"Still fairly deep; a blishfully beautiful bouquet that blossomed in the glass; sweet-as red wines go-and very rich, yet (again) with that hallmakr of fine wine: perfect balance, weight and flavour. If not as submlime as the 1961, unahamedly good." Decanter, July 2008

Robert Parker 88
A consistently delicious example of Vieux-Telegraphe, this spicy, fruity, exuberant, flamboyant wine is full-bodied, juicy, and succulent. Although it lacks the extra dimension of flavor and complexity necessary to merit an outstanding score, it consistently provides a pleasing, mouthfilling glass of textbook Vieux-Telegraphe.

Robert Parker 96
The 1990 has been a consistently perfect wine for much of its life. However, it appears to have turned the corner and lost some of its most profound aspects. It is still an immortal Chateauneuf du Pape, with a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a gorgeous nose of licorice, white flowers, blueberries, and blackberries. The wine is heady, with high alcohol, an unctuous texture, and an extraordinary ripe, concentrated finish. However, some bottles tasted seem far older than others. I don't know whether it is a bottle variation problem or a question of improper storage. Nevertheless, pristine bottles remain candidates for perfection. Catherine and Sophie Armenier continue to fashion one of France's greatest wines. There are 750 cases produced from 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, and 10% miscellaneous varietals.

1991 Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac (750ml)

$75.00
Robert Parker
" The 1991 Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac is one of the two or three best wines I tasted in Chateauneuf du Pape from this dreadful vintage. It displays a deep ruby color, a spicy, herbaceous-scented nose, and rich, curranty fruit."

1993 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$65.00
Robert Parker
...the rich, sweet, open-knit bouquet has gone into hibernation, leaving a tightly knit wine that is frozen in place, reluctantly offering up aromas of black fruits and smoke. Tannic, austere, and more in step with the 1988, this appears to be a vintage that will require more initial cellaring than I had anticipated.

A dark ruby/plum color, the bouquet offers scents of damp forest, underbrush, prune, truffles, and roasted meats. Medium-bodied, soft, attractively rich, fresh, and vigorous, this excellent La Chapelle can be drunk now, or aged for 15 more years.
Wine Spectator 90
A hot summer and thick-skinned grapes seem to have saved the vintage from the bad rain. This impressive '94 shows balance and refined tannins, but the finish is a bit chewy and hard now. Beautifully fresh and clean, with subtle vanilla, blackberry, spice, mocha and chocolate.--

In his modest manner, Bonneau claims 1995 to be a "bon millesime" (vintage). Usually when Henri Bonneau says "bon" it means great. The more concentrated cuvees appear to merit a Reserve des Celestins classification as they are black/purple-colored, extremely broad, full-bodied, with huge alcohol, and unctuous textures.

1995 Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$70.00
Robert Parker 88
The excellent 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape displays an intensely fragrant nose of kirsch, pepper, Provencal herbs, and earth. Medium to full-bodied, round, generous, and supple, this meaty wine can be drunk now as well as over the next 7-10 years. I
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90
Good full red. Riper, more roasted nose than the above, with grenache-dominated aromas of cherry, game, pepper, flowers and tar. Gamey, ripe and expansive in the mouth, with deep flavors of woodsmoke and pepper and plenty of alcoholic clout. Serious and dense rather than simply ripe and sweet.

"The moderately intense bouquet exhibits plenty of ripe blackberry and cherry fruit, in addition to spicy, mineral characteristics. There is considerable weight and volume, but the wine is tight, and nearly impenetrable, leaving an impression of a large deep, four-square monolith in need of 7-10 years of cellaring."

1997 Jaboulet, Cornas (750ml)

$45.00
Robert Parker 90
"The 1997 Cornas reveals a dense black/ruby/purple color, as well as sweet, ripe fruit with an element of sur-maturite. The tell-tale cassis, licorice, mineral, animal, and meaty aromas are present, but the wine possesses a velvety texture, concentrated fruit, and a long, powerful, rich finish. It should drink well for 15 years."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 89-90
"Spicier, riper aromas of black fruits, smoked meat, pepper, leather and exotic spices. Thick and rich but with enough harmonious acidity for balance?.Rather stylish for a big boy, and long on personality."
John-Livingstone Learnmonth 4 *
Dark Plum; ripe grape smell, porty. Ripe, rotting elements. Minty, earthy, good plush, tasty wine. Fat, ripe flavours, juicy texture. Not many hidden corners, not typical Cornas. 2012-16.

It appears I may have seriously underestimated the quality of the 1997 Rayas when tasted from barrel. Tasted twice from bottle, it unquestionably merits a 90-point score. It is rich, deep, and intense. It is an elegant, ripe, evolved, forward, medium-weight Rayas with copious raspberry and cherry fruit. It should drink well young and last for 10-15 years.

Robert Parker 98
This is unquestionably the greatest wine Bonneau has produced since 1990. Tipping the scales at 16.2 - 16.4% natural alcohol, this offering, which has been resting in various sized old barrels since its birth, continues to concentrate itself. It is simply a magnificent wine of extraordinary flavor dimension. A dark plum/garnet color is followed by an exceptionally sweet perfume of a liqueur of aged beef intermixed with black currants, kirsch, pepper, spice box, and herbes de Provence. Massive concentration conceals some lofty tannin, but the tannin is sweet and virtually buried by the plentiful glycerin and extract. A spectacular effort, it is another modern day legend from this idiosyncratic producer who will not change his ways for the modern world ... and why should he? All of us who love wine are so much better off because of him. Because of its size and sweetness, the 1998 should be relatively drinkable upon release, but it has three decades of life ahead of it. 98-100 pts.
Wine Spectator 98
Monstrous, overflowing with roasted chestnut, beef bouillon, bittersweet cocoa, prune, brick dust, espresso and hoisin sauce flavors. This broad-shouldered and immensely concentrated throwback offers accessibility now and for the next 30 years. Drink now through 2035.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 94-97
94-97 points. Deep red-ruby. Knockout nose combines red fruit liqueur, plum, fig, minerals and graphite. Lush, thick and freakishly deep; this has fruit of steel. Like a liqueur in the mouth, hardly surprising in light of the wine's 16% alcohol. Finishes with palate-saturating persistence, with the wine's substantial tannins buried in fruit. This will be a monument.

Soft and precocious is the 1998. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a ripe blackberry and cassis-scented nose that has not yet begun to take on the secondary nuances of leather, dried herbs, and foresty notes. A full-bodied wine, it has a sweet attack, high tannin, and excellent concentration and purity. If my instincts are right, it will require 6-8 years of bottle age, and should keep for 2-3 decades.
Wine Spectator 96
What a great wine. Full-bodied, with crushed berry, smoke and grilled aromas, all presented quite subtly. Stands out for its natural, down-to-earth taste of clean, pure, shining fruit. A pleasure to drink. Tempting now. Best from 2003 through 2015.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92
Red-ruby. Expressive nose combines currant, roast coffee, chicory, underbrush and smoke. Suave yet penetrating in the mouth, with complex flavors of redcurrant, iron, minerals, smoke and tobacco. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent length, though there still some acidity to be absorbed. This is showing well now, though its slightly more advanced aromatics suggest it will not be as long-lived as the '99.

"The color is medium to deep ruby, and the bouquet offers aromas of ripe strawberry and cherry candy, with kirsch liqueur thrown in for additional interest. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and fat, with high levels of sweet fruit, a velvety texture, multiple dimensions, and an explosive finish. It is an undeniably sexy, compelling Rayas that is already performing exceptionally well, despite having been bottled only a few months ago."
Wine Spectator 94
Deceptive because this isn't a showy wine-the aromas are soily, minerally, and shy-but there is amazingly intense ripe and lovely fruit here. Full-bodied, the ripenes of its black and red fruit coats and seduceds the palate. A symphony of flavors that plays harmoniously.

1998 bosquet des Papes, Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$80.00
Wine Spectator 94
Lovely. Shows typical Châteauneuf character, with roasted, toasted and grilled notes in a supple package. Full of ripe plum and sweet but firm tannins, it's full-bodied and deeply satisfying, retaining its textbook personality through the lingering finish. Drink now through 2015.
Robert Parker 90
The deep ruby/plum-colored 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Classique is a dense, concentrated, muscular effort with an intense aromatic profile offering dried Provencal herbs, new saddle leather, melted licorice, roasted meats, and copious quantities of black fruits. Full-bodied, powerful, ripe, and dense, it is best cellared for 2-3 years and drunk over the following 15.

....1999 Hermitage had been bottled only 24 hours before my visit. It exhibits fabulous texture, purity and sweetness as well as a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. There is high tannin, remarkably rich, concentrated extract and tell-tale Hermitage fruit characteristics (blackberries, cassis). minerals and spice. Representing the essence of Syrah. It is the greatest vintage Chave has produced since 1990. While it requires 7-10 years of cellaring, it will last for 4 - 5 decades.

..Assertive, dry-toned texture with warm centre. Southern tones-raspberry fruit with good underlay. Some richness, oil at end. Upright at this stage, likeable punch. More prune flavor with air. Reminds me of 1960s/1970s Chapelles..

Very broad nose, prune/ violets/smoke. Full palate, overt berried fruit. Tannins restrain finish, add some dryness. More complex than 1998. 2016-21

2000 Charbonniere Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vielles Vignes (750ml)

$75.00
Robert Parker 94
Surprisingly, the 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is even bigger and more powerful (15.5% alcohol) than the 2001. One of the classics of the vintage, it boasts a dense purple color as well as a fantastic nose of kirsch liqueur, blackberries, blueberries, and flowers. It possesses a fabulous multi layered texture, admirable purity, and a 50-55 second finish. In spite of its power, high levels of glycerin, and lofty alcohol, there is a sense of elegance and lightness that is uncanny for a wine of this depth and richness. Anticipated maturity: now-2018. The Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is fashioned primarily from 80-year old Grenache (95% of the blend), and 5% Mourvedre, all from the rock-strewn sector of Chateauneuf du Pape called Le Crau. Half of the cuvee is destemmed, and it is given such progressive techniques as pigeage, with malolactic done in foudre, and 10% new oak barrels utilized in its upbringing. Michel Maret is one of the new stars of the southern Rhone. I am glad to see his wines properly represented in the United States.

2000 Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape (375ml)

$27.50
Robert Parker 92
Even better than the 1999, is the 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape. It reveals a deeper ruby/purple color along with sumptuous scents of creme de cassis, kirsch liqueur, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Boasting abundant glycerin, fuller body, additional black fruit characteristics, low acidity, ripe tannin, and a longer finish, it should be silky and accessible upon release. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.

Robert Parker 97
The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (15% alcohol) emerges from a cold terroir in the northern sector of the appellation. The blend is generally 85% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre. Its opaque purple color is followed by a sumptuous perfume of creme de cassis, kirsch liqueur, licorice, plums, minerals, and smoke. Mammoth in the mouth, but surprisingly structured and tannic for a 2000, it is more evolved than its 2001 counterpart. This profound Chateauneuf should evolve slowly and age magnificently for two decades. It is a monumental effort, but patience will be a virtue. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025.

2000 Marcoux Chateaunuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (750ml)

Robert Parker 96
The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes carries its 15% alcohol well. Though a compelling offering, and undoubtedly one of the wines of the vintage, it does not possess that magical extra dimension of greatness found in the 2001. Nevertheless, I would be thrilled to drink it anytime ... anywhere! The floral component of white flowers intermixed with melted licorice, blackberry liqueur, plums, and prunes is followed by an expansive, sexy, silky-textured, full-bodied Chateauneuf with great depth, purity, and lusciousness. As with its younger sibling, the finish lasts for nearly a minute. Again, it is a singular expression of Chateauneuf du Pape that is totally different than its peers. Strikingly rich, dense, and opulent, with a breathtaking array of complexity and flavors, its low acidity, ripe tannin, and wealth of glycerin suggest drinking it now and over the next 15-16 years.

2001 Chave Mon Coeur,Cotes du Rhone (750ml)

$19.50
FineWine International
The 2001 Mon Coeur is the fourth vintage produced of this wine. This year the cepage is 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. This blend is much more Syrah dominated than previous releases. The Syrah is from two southern facing vineyards in Visan chosen for power and elegance. The Grenache is from a north facing vineyard in Buisson binging expressive fruit and texture from the stony terroir. The old vines provide voluptuousness unequalled in most Cotes du Rhone. At the same time, the wine is elegant and beautifully balanced.

2001 Saint Cosme Cotie Rotie (750ml)

$90.00
Wine- Maker Notes
100% Syrah from some of the greatest top secret sites on the Côte Brune. Aged 15 months in new oak and bottled without fining or filtration.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 89
Dark red. Aromas of raspberry, coffee, mocha, flowers and exotic woodsmoke. Sweet and fairly pliant but powerfully structured and backward, with a strong impression of extract. Finishes with pepper and oak notes and fairly fine tannins. But this big boy needs a few years of additional bottle aging.

2003 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$90.00
Robert Parker 92
The 2003 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape turned out as well as I could have hoped and is certainly an outstanding wine, deep ruby/purple with a tight but promising nose of black fruits, loamy, earthy notes intermixed with pepper, smoke, licorice, and dried herbs. The wine is somewhat closed in the mouth (but it had been bottled 30 days prior to my visit), has full bodied, moderately high, slightly rustic tannins, but big-impact flavors with plenty of texture, density, and purity. Give this wine 3-5 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 20 years.
Wine Spectator 94
Young and tight, with garrigue and roasted game aromas peeking out from a core of ripe black currant, plum and fig fruit. Lots of toast tobacco and iron as well. The finish is well-endowed with tannins, but they are ripe and pure. Best from 2008 through 2025.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93
Deep, dense red color. Vibrant aromas of aromas of cherry, wild herbs, fresh flowers and minerals. Energetic and sweet, showing no overripe qualities; offers a silky, suave texture and wonderfully pure red berry, fresh plum, kirsch and fig flavors. Those with an aversion to the funky, gamey character that can characterize Beaucastel in "typical" vintages owe it to themselves to check this out. Clearly, the Perrins know what to do with grenache, even if it's not their favorite grape.

The 2003 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin has turned out even better than I thought last year. Black purple to the rim, with an extraordinary nose of smoke, camphor, blackberry, cassis, sweet cherry, white flowers, licorice, and Chinese black tea, the wine has superb richness, huge tannins, massive concentration, and a monster finish. Forget this wine for 5-8 years and drink it over the following 35 or more.

Deceptively graceful at first with a Burgundian-like perfume, this quickly delivers a torrent of fruit-blackberry, boysenberry and black currant-that cascades over itself, pushed from behind by flavors of mocha, mineral, tar and violets. Long, sweet and pure through a densely structured finish.
Robert Parker 95
The finest example of this cuvee since 1990, the 2003 Hermitage La Chapelle (50,000 bottles rather than the normal 96,000+ were produced) possesses an inky/purple color as well as a tremendous bouquet of creme de cassis, crushed flowers, truffles, and licorice. Full-bodied and powerful (15% natural alcohol) with good freshness and definition, this big, rich, dense, reassuringly great La Chapelle should be cellared for 5-8 years, and drunk over the following 20-25.

The 2005 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape is a wine that probably needs 7-10 years of bottle age. Possibly the most backward and closed Beaucastel made since the 1995, the wine has very high tannins, seems totally closed aromatically, but in the mouth is a weighty wine exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color and tight aromatics consisting of new saddle leather, porcini, meat juices, licorice, tar, and black fruits. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, very tannic, and structured in a dramatically masculine, ageworthy style. This is one for the younger generation or those with considerable patience. I can¿t see it being close to drinkable before 2014 and lasting up to 30 or more years.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93-96
"Deep ruby. Intense dark berry scents expand and deepen with air, picking up dusky espresso and licorice tones. Lush, powerful and sweet, with impressively concentrated, pure dark berry flavors and supple, finely integrated tannins. There's a great fruit/tannin balance here, and the supple finish boasts impressively concentrated and remarkably persistent cherry and blackberry fruit." Josh Raynolds
Decanter Magazine 5*
Live, prominent, broad bouquet, classy and balanced. Notably rich palate with fabulous balance that maskes its power. Tannins well in step. Greath length, Grand Vin. Drink 2027-30. Five *****
Wine Spectator 96
Really dense and locked up now, this is packed with dark fig, currant and blackberry fruit shrouded by layers of tar, hot stone, bittersweet licorice and espresso. The long, dense finish has a great tug of iron buried within it.

Robert Parker 94
The 2005 Ermitage Les Greffieux is a beauty, but it has to take a backseat to the 2006. It has an admirable creme de cassis note, an inky purple color, plenty of meat, smoke, steel, and black fruits in a dense, fleshy style. It is by far the most forward of the 2005 Ermitages. That¿s not to say there's any deficiency in tannin lurking underneath the wine's density and richness. It should evolve for 20-25 years.
Wine Spectator 95
Ripe and very fresh, with bright floral, licorice snap and cassis bush notes leading the way for plum sauce, blackberry and raspberrry fruit flavors. Long, taut finish shows fine structure of the vintage. 46 cases imported
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 95
Opaque purple. Hugely aromatic, alluring bouquet of red berry preserves, violet, rose, smoked meat, minerals and black pepper. Saturates the palate with deep black raspberry and kirsch flavors, picking up tangy mineral and spice character with air. Utterly seamless Hermitage with outstanding finishing lift and precision.

2005 Charvin Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$70.00
Wine Spectator 94
Lush and forward for the vintage, with dark currant and fig paste flavors backed by licorice, coffee, garrigue and braised beef notes. The long, smoky finish has a lingering touch of mesquite. The profile is black fruit, but the structure is remarkably elegant for the vintage, with lovely poise.
Robert Parker 93
The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape is superb, but it has to take a back seat to the 2006. Dark ruby with notes of underbrush, the seaweed wrapper nori, kirsch liqueur, and a bit of pepper and spice box, it is deep and broad, with outstanding concentration, moderately high tannin, and a nicely structured, pure mouthfeel.

2005 Clos Saint-Jean Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$50.00
Wine Spectator 93
Quite ripe, with almost flashy fig, currant paste and mocha notes that slowly give way to more loam, tar and coffee flavors. This really shows its density on the finish, with hints of Port reduction and licorice pushed by ample but ripe tannins.

The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has a dark saturated ruby/purple color and a gorgeous nose of camphor, beef blood, roasted meat, pepper, lavender, spring flowers, and assorted red and black fruits such as kirsch and blackberry. The wine is very Provencal, extremely deep, full-bodied, and ideal for drinking over the next 12-15 years. The tannins are there, but they are nearly obliterated by the wine's concentration and richness.

Showing fabulously well, and better than I predicted, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines is one of the vintage's great successes, and still very reasonably priced for a wine of such quality. Dense saturated ruby/purple in color, it offers up a nose of melted licorice, roasted meat, tar, graphite, and oodles of blackberry and sweet cherry fruit. Quite full-bodied, with good acidity, moderate tannins, and a multi-dimensional mouthfeel, the wine has superb balance, fabulous concentration, and a long, long finish. The tannins suggest 2-3 years of bottle age would be appropriate, but the wine can be drunk now, although it should also evolve for up to two decades.

Dark ruby. Spicy cherry and cassis on the nose, with exotic herbs and incense adding interest. Lush, creamy and sweet, offering deep dark berry flavors and a spicy licorice quality. Picks up dusty tannins on the long, sweet, gripping finish. This shows excellent focus.
Wine Spectator 93
"Dark, ripe and full-bodied, with lots of currant, fig and cocoa flavors supported by bright mineral and sweet spice notes. The long, lingering finish has a nice latent structure, and this should blossom in the cellar."

Since 1996, their Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois has been one of the stars of the vintage. The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois boasts a dense purple color, a full-bodied, opulent style, moderately high tannin, sensational concentration, and abundant aromas and flavors of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, and spice. It is a meaty, fleshy, tannic effort that brings to mind the 1998. A brilliant wine for the vintage, it should be exceptionally long lived.
Wine Spectator 95
Packed with layers of fig, raspberry and blackberry confiture flavors, this is long and fleshy, with lots of racy graphite and sweet cocoa notes. The long, ripe, defined finish shows great grip, with encores of fruit and minerality.

Has nice grip, with blackberry and black currant flavors, sweet cocoa and graphite notes, and a long, ripe, structured finish that delivers another wave of dark fruit. Drink now through 2013.

"Inky ruby. Deep dark berry and candied cherry aromas are brightened by minerality and fresh flowers. Powerful cassis and bitter cherry flavors are surprisingly vibrant, and the finish boasts almost shocking freshness. Impressive." Josh Raynolds

2006 Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape (750ml)

$55.00
Robert Parker 91-93
"The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape is a winner. Inky blue/purple with notes of graphite, blueberry, blackberry, smoke, Provencal herbs and a bit of licorice and pepper, it is deep, full-bodied, with sweet tannins and loads of fruit and glycerin. Drink it over the next 12-14 years."
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 88-90
"Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and mocha aromas are brightened by baking spices and blond tobacco. Fresher on the palate, with energetic red fruit qualities and juicy acidity adding lift. Offers a nice marriage of ripeness and vivacity."
Wine & Spirits 91
A lavishly fruited blend of greanache (70%) with syrah (20%0 and mourvedre (10%), this is red as raspberry jam deepened with a swirl of dark chocolate. It's not complex, but it's lasting, a modern style approachable now with filet mignon.

"Dark ruby. Rich, chocolatey cherry and blackcurrant aromas, with vanilla and baking spices adding nuance. Fat, round and sweet, showing distinctly oak-spiced dark fruit flavors, with firm tannins framing the finish. Impressive in its material but the oak is a bit strident today."
Robert Parker 93-95
"The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines is one of the vintage¿s most profound wines. Inky purple to the rim, showing some subtle influence of barriques, the wine has an impressive nose of chocolate, smoke, roasted meats, blueberries, and jammy black cherries with some licorice and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, powerful, but has silky tannins and good acidity. This wine should be drinkable upon release and last for 15 or more years."
