Wine News 92
"Wonderfully evolved, intense, fragrant nose of cedar, black fruits, smoked meat, leather and brown spice. Sweet and luscious with soft tannins and brimming flavors, yet supremely elegant and complex. Bordeaux-like in its balance, depth and richness. Drinks fine now." From 20th Anniversary Tasting held October 1999

Wine Spectator 95
Amazing rich and concentrated, with tiers of beautiful currant, plum, black cherry, herb and spice flavors that are elegant and sharply defined.
Wine News 92
Somewhat restrained, yet intriguing nose of dried herbs, mineral, cedar and black cherry. Intense flaovrs of mocha and black fruits, vanilla and coffee bean. Bold, delicious and exquisitely balanced. From 20th Anniversary Tasting held October 1999.
FineWine International
Blend: 87% Cabernet, 9% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot
E Robert Parker In Asia, Lisa Perrotit-Brown 91
Deep brick colour. Appealingly evolved nose of leather, game, tobacco, espresso, stewed prunes, bacon and tea. The palate still provides a good amount of elegant fruit that builds in the mouth. Light to medium level of silky tannins remain with medium to high acidity to provide freshness. Long finish. Fully mature. Should keep a further 2-3 years. Tasted April 2009. Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Wine Spectator 95
"True to form, this renowned California red weaves a complex array of currant, plum, leather, spice and mineral flavors, with a seamless texture and lush but firm tannins. Finishes with an extra lift that keeps the flavors alive and lingering. Quite impressive."
Wine News 95
"Slow to open nose of berry cassis, toasty oask, vanilla, caramel, clove and lead pencil. Even bigger than the 1994 with extracted, concentrated blackberry-cassis frit and medium-full, supple tannins. Mouth-filling with plush textures, this is a massive, intense Opus with excellent aging potential. From 20th Anniversary Tasting held October 1999."
FineWine International
86% Cabernet, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 2% Malbec
E Robert Parker In Asia, Lisa Perrotit-Brown 93
Medium brick colour. Intense nose of dried blackberries and cherries laced with complex aromas of coffee grounds, tobacco leaf, cumin and soy. Nice concentration of mature berry and spice fruit balanced by medium to firm, slightly chewy tannins and medium to high acidity. A more structured style of Opus. Very long finish. Drink now to 2020. Tasted April 2009. Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Robert Parker 94
"This is one of the finest Opus Ones to date, offering a dark ruby/purple color, as well as a striking, intense bouquet of sweet licorice intermixed with blackberries, cassis, plums, and saddle leather. The long finish is filled with glycerin, ripe fruit, and sweet tannin."
Wine Spectator 96
"Wonderful finesse and complexity. Not the up-front opulent flavor of the '94 or '95, but seemingly deeper, with more finesse to the toasty clove, currant, black cherry and spice."
Wine News 96
"Expansive, aromatic nose of dusty herbs, clove, sandalwood, ripe black fruits, leather and toasty oak. Deep, ulra-ripe black fruits are accompanied by a wisp of Medoc-like green herb, with flavors that show excellent concentration and avoid any suggestion of being overripe. A bigger style than bottling up to 1993 with medium-full tannins and considerable extraction that will require several years of cellaring." From 20th Anniversary Tasting held October 1999.
FineWine International
Blend: 86% Cabernet, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, 3% Malbec

Wine Spectator 93
An exquisite, complex, stylish wine, wearing a cloak of earthy, leathery tannins around flavors of mineral, currant, earth and blackberry. Gains intensity and shows its depth and concentration on the finish, which is long and detailed. Best from 2004 through 2012.
Neil Martin, Wine Journal, eRobert Parker
A mature mahogany core with tawny rim. It has a rather sweet, I am guessing chaptalized nose which turn very toffee-ish with 10 minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, moderate tannins, rather foursquare and conservative but quite mellow and refined on the finish. Drink now-2012. 85 pts. Tasted May 2008. Bright, full ruby. Enticing aromas of black raspberry, licorice and melted chocolate. Sweet, lush and superripe; in fact, this is downright massive, with an almost porty, lower-toned quality perked up by complex mineral and red licorice elements. Wonderfully fat, sweet wine with extravagant chocolate, mocha and nutty oak tones. Finishes with rich, broad tannins and a wave of chocolatey dark fruits. This is the first release from Jayson Woodbridge's home vineyard, which features nine separate blocks of vines and six clones, and which was picked in multiple passes and fermented in 500-liter puncheons.
Wine Spectator 90
A tightly knit youngster, with hints of earthy cedar, tar and tobacco which join ripe currant, red cherry, anise, leather, sage and spice, ending with a strong, structured tannic finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
Robert Parker 95
The opaque purple-hued 2005 exhibits an extraordinary nose of violets, creme de cassis, charcoal, and spring flowers. Gorgeously pure, opulently full-bodied, with sweet tannins, superb concentration, and a low acid, ripe, tannic finish, it tastes like a top-notch vintage of ripe Bordeaux, but made in California. It can be drunk now and over the next 20-25 years. Bravo!

Not surprisingly, the 2006 is a bigger, more muscular, less charming effort displaying unbridled power, full-bodied richness, and notes of new saddle leather, black fruits, roasted herbs, and burning embers. Powerful and rich with sweet tannin, low acidity, and more structure and density than the 2005 as well as less nuance and complexity, the 2006 should be consumed over the next 15+ years.
Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93
Saturated deep ruby. Cassis, bitter chocolate and sexy smoky oak on the nose. Dense and sweet but firmly structured, with lovely inner-mouth aromatic quality giving the wine sappy lift. Pure, penetrating flavors of cassis, lead pencil and bitter chocolate, with a sexy oak quality that I can only describe as Mouton-like. This is still quite tightly wound and will need several years of bottle aging to soften up (it won't be released until the fall of this year). "The biggest change here has been our independence," said winemaker Michael Silacci, who took over winemaking responsibilities with the 2004 vintage; previously former partners Mouton-Rothschild and Robert Mondavi were involved in crafting this wine.
