"The 2002 Syrah Phoenix Ranch, from a vineyard planted at the base of Atlas Peak, exhibits an intense black/purple color as well as attractive Syrah aromas of bacon fat intermixed with blackberries, licorice, and a touch of pepper. In the mouth, it narrows a bit, and finishes with medium-bodied, firm tannin."

"Bright ruby-blue. Lively, floral aromas of blueberry, currant, gunflint and smoked meat. Quite firm on the palate despite a high pH, with bright flavors of red fruits, smoked meat, spices and pepper. Finishes with solid tannins and good length. Shows much more varietal complexity than the 2001 bottling."
