Tasting Notes

| Straw, melon and spice notes mingle with the rich texture and moderate structure. There's a hint of oak, and this picks up a light bitterness on the finish. | |

| This lively, dry white from Hungary starts with aromas of apple, oaky spice and citrus, leading in to balanced fruit flavors with a toasty vanilla edge. Smooth but spunky, the wine ends with a good spicy finish. | |

| It is not surprising that when they turned their attention to dry wine, their 2006 Furmint would be worthy of wine lovers? attention. Pineapple, lime zest, musky flowers, and wood smoke scent the nose. On the palate, this displays the phenolic cut and refreshing citricity as well as the subtly bitter oiliness common to virtually all Furmint. But there is a satisfying sheer juiciness here that allows the bitter-sweet nutty and zesty side of the variety to add complexity rather than dominate the proceedings. Enjoy this distinctive and intensely-flavored wine over the coming year, particularly in strongly herbal, citric, or charred and grilled food contexts. Royal Tokaji was also long reluctant to bottle nobly sweet wine of less than Tokaji Aszu concentration, even as many of their neighbors were leaning heavily on such ?late-harvest? (but not official Aszu) cuvees. |
