Tasting Notes

| Review:of the 2009 vintage: This dry, full-bodied rose, made from tiny yields of 27 hectoliters per hectare, is a blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Cinsault and the rest Clairette. The estate is large, nearly 90 acres, owned by the Richard family, who are the proprietors of Chateau La Nerthe. This classic orange/salmon-colored wine offers up an exquisite nose of dried flowers, framboise, strawberry jam, Provencal herbs and spice. Its considerable depth of flavor and full body make this very dry rose the quintessential example of a great Tavel (which is increasingly hard to find). Drink it over the next 1-2 years. | |

| (a blend of grenache, grenache blanc, cinsault, syrah, mourvedre, carignan, clairette and bourboulenc): Dark pink. High-pitched aromas of redcurrant and strawberry, with notes of rhubarb and dried flowers adding complexity. Spicy and focused on the palate, offering deep red berry flavors and a note of bitter cherry. The persistent, cherry-accented finish is dry and nervy. I really like this wine's blend of power and vivacity. |
