"Hard and chewy, with a strong dose of cedary oak, wild berry, blackberry and mineral flavors. Dense and concentrated, it is supported by firm, chewy tannins, ending with a minerally quality and good length."

"Telltale aromas of violets, blackberries, blueberries, and crushed stones are apparent in this medium to full-bodied, slightly lean 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain. Tasty and expressive, it needs 3-4 years of cellaring, and should drink well for a decade."

First component: Saturated ruby. Wild aromas of crushed dark berries, leather and meat. Juicy and minerally but not particularly fleshy. Shows a slightly rustic gamey quality to go with the mountain berry intensity. Second component: Distinctly animal on the nose. More expressive, expansive flavors of black raspberry, minerals and game. This may well surpass both the '99 and '98 Howell Mountain.
